I just turned 19 and recently started working at McDonalds. It wasn't my first choice but I applied to 100 different places to work this summer and that is the only real interview/job offer I got. I don't really need the money but I just wanted to gain some job experience and have something to do this summer. I go to a private university and have to pay for some school expenses too, so the money is useful. But I hear so many people talking crap about people who work at McDonalds. Sure, it's not the ideal career. But what is so wrong with working there? Atleast people working there are actually working and not sitting around. And in this economy, it is so difficult to find a job at all. Yeah, I make minimum wage but let me tell you, it is HARD work. So please tell me - why are people so judgmental of people who work there? Why do people make fun of people who work at McDonalds/fast food places?
I'll be attending NYU this upcoming fall, and I work a Burger King. People often look down upon my place of work and I have come to a simple conclusion about the matter. Human beings (sadly mostly Americans) have this distorted superiority complex where anything that they don't want to do is automatically deemed less than them. I have know people that would rather sell drugs or their bodies than work in Taco Bell. America glorifies gluttony and laziness, making it socially acceptable to look down upon making an honest living. Sad. But true. Why do people make fun of people who work at McDonalds/fast food places?
I worked there (It was my first Job....years ago). It is NOT hard work. I think people make fun of people who work there because a lot of the workers there (AND NOT ALL OF THEM) seem incompetent. Sure, there are ones that are great at what they do in their job there and are reliable, but a great majority of the workers never get the order right the first time. I commend anyone who is working there because it is a tough economy but let's admit it...you don't have to be a rocket scientist to work there...so if there were more competent workers there they might have a more respectful reputation.
because they think it's an easy job and because you're making minimum wage
but to anyone that has never worked at a fast food restaurant, i work at a fast food restaurant and i agree with Isabel that it is NOT an easy job. it is actually probably one of the hardest minimum wage jobs, it is soo stressful and you have no idea how stressful it is until you work there
this is my first job i have and i have gained so much knowledge and experience talking to different types of people, but after working there a few months i am exhausted of that place and i'm just looking for a relaxed office job
..so back on topic, people don't know what it's like and they think it's alright to make fun of people who work their a$$es off for low pay
and @theseeker1033: you should learn how to spell before you criticize others on how they're "barley" able to speak english
ok well he changed it now but thanks for the thumbs downs. Why do people make fun of people who work at McDonalds/fast food places?
It is a shitty job. Low pay, hard work, and all you do is make people fatter. It is A JOB though so it's better than nothing.
I'm 16, I had my first shift there yesterday, and I've already dealt with horribly rude, impatient customers. I think they make fun of the adults who work there as a career for their whole lives, which still isn't nice, but I don't think they're making fun of you.
I'm still at school, and for people our age, there isn't any great employment available anywhere, so McDonald's isn't that bad if you work there while you're young. I'm glad to have a job because I want the money but I don't plan on staying there for the rest of my life!
But I get what you're saying about it being hard work. Why do people make fun of people who work at McDonalds/fast food places?
I worked at a%26amp;w when i was 26 and i needed the money. Fast food is ridiculously hard especially when people are yelling at you to go faster... All i can say is i feel your pain. Just because you have a job don't stop handing out resumes sometimes already having a job gets you the next one on an interview shows you've got ambition. Always always always demand to see the manager to give out your resume
Many people like to have something to make fun of, its their nature. They could change if they put their mind to it, but don't expect everyone to. McDonalds seems like such a big corporation with so many locations, and doesn't have the best reputation. Its quick food that most often isn't a healthy choice in the slightest. "McJobs" is a term coined for minimum wage jobs, due to the popularity of McDonalds. It is mostly because of the minimum wage and sometimes "grimy" or "unhealthy" reputations that go along with it. Despite whether or not you work hard, it is still a "McJob" and though it may be offensive to people that take their job seriously in these establishments, people will continue to see this as rock bottom when it comes to job opportunities.
My advice? Try and ignore the judgments placed upon you by those around you, as I doubt much of it will cease. Just do the work as you do and keep on keeping on! If it really bothers you, perhaps search for new jobs in the background. If it doesn't, then please continue serving those hungry customers!
I mean no disrespect to your current job in any of this, and I wish you the best in all your future endeavours! Cheers, mate!

only such people make dumb comments who can't realize that positions can be switched and next day they could be making burgers for others.
The stigma of society to portray the idea that retail or any work dealing with people that is less than glamourous as demeaning.
As people get older they see that hard work for ANYTHING is never less than. If someone doesn't learn this fast enough, they fall behind and dream when they could be doing something.
Until people give more respect to others for just having a job, life for people in jobs such as this won't get the respect they deserve
Would u like fries, with this answer..................................鈥?br>
Even though u did not request fries.
Because the people that work there smell of grease.
The employees of fast food places gave themselves a bad rap. It's not that people just started to make fun of them for no reason, they get made fun of because the people who work there are mostly idiots and can't even get an order right, or barely speak english, or in some cases fail to understand what "fast" food means. It is probably the easiest job next to manual labor.

Lighten up, you saw how hard it was to get a job, right? Well, at least you have one. F*** what people say.
@A Rose for the Dead: At least have proper sentence structure (capital letters, starting a sentence with because, run on sentences, saying "actually probably" etc) before you incorrectly criticize me. Barely Barley, in case you didn't know, are both words and both are spelt correctly hence spell check didn't catch my typo.
cuz its gay lolumadbro
