Has anyone worked in fast food during high school and then gone on to have a technical career?

I am interested in seeing if a correlation exists.

If you worked at a big name (McDonald's, Taco Bell, KFC, Burger King, Wendy's, etc.) and then went on to have a technical career (engineering, statistics, computer programming, etc.), could you please let me know by answering this question? Thanks.Has anyone worked in fast food during high school and then gone on to have a technical career?
I worked at McDonald's %26amp; struggled my whole life with work it did nothing good for me.....My son worked over a year for Taco Bell %26amp; he recieved a finance degree. He went to work for home depo then in construction %26amp; after the finance degree he was a superintendent in construction %26amp; working many hours a week %26amp; still working on his MBA. I think his degree has something also to do with building management %26amp; he may be involves some how with engineering.Has anyone worked in fast food during high school and then gone on to have a technical career?
es
yeah working at fast food while you in school then off to college.

it can happenHas anyone worked in fast food during high school and then gone on to have a technical career?
I worked at Barnes %26amp; Noble when I was 18. I'm a Network Engineer.

Well technically, I had just graduated high school when I got that job. Oh well. Maybe Barnes %26amp; Noble doesn't count anyway.
I worked for Burger King with my best friend for two week. Our parents wouldn't buy us the rebok high tops that we wanted unless we had a job (I'll wait for you to finish laughing).

I'm now, an executive assistant and an Firefighter/EMTHas anyone worked in fast food during high school and then gone on to have a technical career?
hundreds of millions of people
Wow, you must be one fat fk

working at all the food shops and now on the computer all day
My son's friend worked at Hardee's for quite a few years. He finally went to technical school (cost about $22,000) for a year and a half. He now has a good job with a computer company down in NC. He's doing very well!
I started at McDonald's and worked there for a while. I got CCNA certifications and worked as a network administrator for a few years.
Of course! Successful people have to make some money in High School. Just make good grades and go to College. MY husband used to work at Subway and went to college and he is now in computer programming making very good money. Dont worry, if you keep up those grades and you are determined and you are good at what you do, then you will be very successful!!
I haven't but I have friends who have... I don't think it matters where you work when you're in high school, if your working period and going to school and doing good at work, thats a good sign of responsibility so should do well after high school :D
of course :] if you stick with a job for the time needed then it only ups your chances of stick to your technical career. its not a fun job but it shows that you want to get to your dream. good luck. :]
Um...Um... many have worked fast food during high school and attended college, technical school and other post secondary institutions.

My cardiologist worked at Long John Silvers when he was in high school, I know as I was his boss!

I don't see the purpose of your question but that's what Y! Answers is for.
without the proper technical traning most of your chances are slim, but you wont know if you dont try to apply for those kind of jobs, just beef up your resume a little bit and kiss butt and you'll get a job. just tell them what they want to here but you must if hired show you can do the job at least somewhat. and yes you do have a chance i worked at whataburger for a year and moved to company that sold very expensive house held accessories within a couple of weeks of very strainiouse searching for a job of employment of something i never thought i would get a job in. but then fraud came into play with the owner and the company shut down.with the money i saved i now own a lawncare/landscape business. just follow your gut feeling dont giveup

Happy hunting
not me. still in fast food, and no college degree

Is someone who has a phD in physics but only makes 20$/hour underpaid?

They work for a government research lab, and have no hopes for raises/promotions in the next 15-20 years of work. They did 10 years of schooling after high-school (4 years undergrad, 2 years masters, 4 years phD) and they are in a ton of debt. Would you say that this person is underpaid? What other career opportunities do they have? The embarrassing thing is, his brother who is a Mcdonalds manager and only with a high-school diploma, earns more than he does as a physicist. Is someone who has a phD in physics but only makes 20$/hour underpaid?
Yes. He has applied for and taken a job that he was over qualified for and because he was probably by far the best candidate they were happy to hire him. He has lots of options available to him such as doing research with a private company where he would be paid on par with others that have the same credentials or he could pursue teaching on the college level. Both would be much higher paying jobs with job tenure, promotion potential, bonuses etc. This gov. job could just be an entry level job he is taking while he is looking the ladder up for something else, but he could still be earning more for what he is qualified to do.Is someone who has a phD in physics but only makes 20$/hour underpaid?
These days it is right. Out here in CO we have masters and phds working at Einstein Bagels.

Yes..way underpaid...but atleast they would get some experience...would suggest trying private research labs...Is someone who has a phD in physics but only makes 20$/hour underpaid?
$20/hr is below the US average for ALL jobs - that is barely or just above starting wage for most college grads with a 4 yr degree

obvious the braniac didn't do much research into what type of jobs and earnings potential such a career choice would provide

How can i get into IT with hardily any experience?

how can i get into IT. i have no actual qualifications in IT. i work at a local mcdonalds at the moment and i have completed cert 3 in retail supervision, and im doing cert 4 in retail management now. im starting to build my own PC and i am very interested in getting into the IT industry.

how would i go about getting my career started? How can i get into IT with hardily any experience?
thats the only thing about IT, they want you to have experience. They don't want to put you in charge of something and you break it. You need to take some computer courses and try to get a job at a call center for like a cell phone company or computer company. They train you on what you need to know alot of the time and go from there. How can i get into IT with hardily any experience?
Well I dont know how I can help you but I'm gonna lay down some of my life experience. I am now 17 and I've went to lots of IT, computer science contests and won some of them.

It all started when was little and had this taste for Sci-Fi movies and science of course. I didn't get a computer until 2 years ago but every time I had a computer in front of me I would browse stuff like control panel, everything that was about customization and options. When I got my computer I gotta say I got a little but addicted to games especially World of Warcraft until I was told that I could play for free on provate servers. I thought he was joking but the I got the proof played a bit and wondered: How did they do that? So I searched teh internet up and down, then learned how to make my own server (using basic repacks) then I learned about C++ compiling and MySQL (all from the desire to customize). Next thing I know at school we learn C++ so with a litle bit of my exp my teahcer gave me some books on it and stuff. And that how I did it.

So I could say that its all about practice experience at first. Browsing, getting interested at first untl it gets professional. I hope I helped. Good luck.

How long should it take for McDonald's to tell you if you got an interview?

I applied for a job online at McDonald's 5 days ago. How long should it take to hear back from them. Also they sent me this email immediately after sending in my application. "Dear Applicant:

Can you file, type, answer the phone, greet customers, use Microsoft programs like Word and Excel, or have you considered going to a community college to get those types of skills? You want to look like you care about the position that you are applying for.

Writing out a resume makes it look like you were too lazy to look professional.

NOT the impression you want to make.

Check out a resume example website to help you with your resume.

It'll be hard to find one that's only got fast food experience, but remember to play everything up!

The resume is what gets you into the interview.

Is it better to work the same job for a long time or several jobs for a short time?

I need to know if I should go back to my old job at McDonald's (I really was lovin' it) or get a new job somewhere else. I planned on staying with McDonald's until I graduated college and got a better career opportunity in about four or five years. What do you think I should do?Is it better to work the same job for a long time or several jobs for a short time?
M.Beauty, employers definitely look at how long you stay in one job. I stay in my last job 13 yrs and that is the one thing my new supervisor kept bringing out at the interview. Take in consideration that the economy is bad and it's not going to get any better. If you stay at Macdonald until you finish school and there is nothing out there in the field you chose, there is always an opportunity for you to become a manager in the restaurant industry.( If you're not already) It's a decent pay too. And you can add that to your resume.

Great question! Is it better to work the same job for a long time or several jobs for a short time?
stick to the one then u get pay rise know the staff and know wat ur doing job to job and unstable low wage and lonelyIs it better to work the same job for a long time or several jobs for a short time?
It depends of the jobs. if all the small jobs you work for have a very high salary, and not many promotions, then its best to do many different jobs so you wont be bored. but if all the small jobs have low salary and good chances of promotion to a very good salary then keep the one job onlyIs it better to work the same job for a long time or several jobs for a short time?
It is always better to work with someone for a long time than lots lot job over the same amount of time. It shows commintent and staying power. moving from job to job might give people the wrong idea about you and show that you cant stick to a job or can't work with the same people for long periods of time.
You are in a difficult situation. Liking working for McDonald's shows your loyalty but it also shows your lack of ambition. Changing jobs frequently indicates your lack of stability. Even though you are getting a college education you do not seem to have any goals. You must establish some. Otherwise you will work for minumum wage for the rest of your life and waste your education.

  • Are Art Degrees really as bad for job prospects as people say they are?

I really like drawing and Art, but I hear many people saying if i studied Art at Degree level you will end up flipping burgers in Mcdonalds. Is this true? will I actually end up in just as bad a situation job wise, as i am now?? I mean I want to go do an Art Degree of some kind at University because I really enjoy Art, but If my career prospects are going to be useless, then why should i bother going? Please Help! Are Art Degrees really as bad for job prospects as people say they are?
http://youfail.org/Are Art Degrees really as bad for job prospects as people say they are?
Usually, those with HE qualifications in science, medicine, engineering, and technology earn much more than those with arts-based or human sciences qualifications. This is largely due to the fact that a growing economy relies heavily on people with such skills, as they make-up the country's technological infrastructure.

Art is often thought of as something that the economy seeks when times are good and there's money to spare - Unfortunately, this is not always the case, and arts graduates have little or no other skills that can help then compete effectively in the modern economy.

Loving art, music, drawing, acting..etc.. is all very well and is a great thing to do - but probably as a hobby or something secondary. But as a degree course, I would say it's not a great option.

Having said all that, I remember what my father once told me: " A good artist is better than a hundred rubbish engineers " - So remember that you need to specialise in something that you like, but also something that can actually pay the gas bill at the end of the month! - It's not an easy decision.

Good luckAre Art Degrees really as bad for job prospects as people say they are?
It is a bit difficult to manage with just a degree in Arts. However, if you are planning for a good career and you are not confident that you will be able to make it big through your love of Arts, the best thing you can do is take up a major in a good programme and minor in Arts. I am not sure if such a facility is available in the Univ you would like to go to. But this way you can still take up subjects of your choice. Are Art Degrees really as bad for job prospects as people say they are?
Theoretically, that may be the case in today's "modern" world but I think it also depends on other factors, maybe even more important, like how hardworking you are, your extra-curricular activities, etc.

How you will perform at university regardless of your degree is also another important thing. If studying an art degree will help you to be more motivated, then why not?
look on the bright side; at least you dont have a bachelors in psychology

Is craigslist the ONLY SERIOUS PLACE to find jobs in this country?

Newspapers don't have nearly the job ads they did. In LA, it's like 1/10 from 6yrs ago. Monster, Career builder, are for professional level people who have degrees or training -- the rest is spammy or nation-wide ads for no place in paticular like McDonalds corperate office puts out..

SO is craigslist the only place to just find a job!?!?!?!?!Is craigslist the ONLY SERIOUS PLACE to find jobs in this country?
I agree with the links listed above. However, honestly, my best luck HAS been with Craigslist or jobs listed on career services websites of universities for students (even though I wasn't a student at those schools most of the time). I have never even heard back from jobs I applied for through Indeed or SimplyHired. I recently was offered two jobs--one I found on Craigslist and the other is a place I called and asked if they're hiring, and they gave me an e-mail address to send my resume to (pretty much every other place I called and asked if they're hiring, they said no...so I don't necessarily recommend doing that, but it's a method). I interviewed for two other jobs I found through Craigslist recently, and I didn't get one while I'm still waiting to hear from another.

There's nothing really wrong with Craigslist once you get smart about how to use it. For the most part, if a job ad doesn't leave any sort of identifying info, i.e. company name, phone number, LEGITIMATE-looking website url, fax #, legitimate-looking e-mail address...don't apply. One way I figure out if an url or e-mail add is legit is to do an internet search on it and see what comes up, i.e. if an e-mail addy is hr@hotstop.com, I google "hotstop" and the city name and see what comes up. If a legitimate url comes up or good reviews about the place come up, I apply. Once I started doing things this way, I started having a lot of luck with Craigslist. Is craigslist the ONLY SERIOUS PLACE to find jobs in this country?
CL is probably the LEAST serious place to find a job

    check local online newspaper sites

google jobs and your areaIs craigslist the ONLY SERIOUS PLACE to find jobs in this country?
Try www.simplyhired.com and www.indeed.com. They give you results from multiple job posting sites. Is craigslist the ONLY SERIOUS PLACE to find jobs in this country?
Honestly, I think craigs is filled with spam mostly.... You could try indeed.com or http://www.chowcow.com too.

Do righties think that creating minimum wage jobs is the same as creating career tracked good paying jobs?

Rick Perry seems to be quite proud of his record of creating minimum wage jobs in texas over the recent years. I'm not sure if we should be counting McDonalds and Toys R us on the job creation tally.Do righties think that creating minimum wage jobs is the same as creating career tracked good paying jobs?
Why does your track record overlook the many businesses that Perry has enticed to move to Texas during his time as governor?Do righties think that creating minimum wage jobs is the same as creating career tracked good paying jobs?
Conservatives don't seem to understand that America needs real jobs, not these types of jobs. Minimum wage jobs will do absolutely nothing to help the economy. This economy needs a resurgence of the middle class, not a growing lower class.

Apparently, conservatives have never taken a look at our neighbor, Mexico. That's your Rick Perry America right there.
Let us look at some facts. Most High school student start off with a minimum wage job and then move up. If one store opens, here is how it goes. One Manager, three shift or asst managers and 6 clerks. Yes he created 6 minimum wages jobs but 4 that are higher than that.Do righties think that creating minimum wage jobs is the same as creating career tracked good paying jobs?
ROFL.. but when Obama's stimulus scam pays somebody for 30 minutes of their time for a survey, it's perfectly OK for him to include them in his "job creation" numbers..

Aaah.. you've got to love the liberal mentality.
Look at the jobs "created" by the obama administration, then ask that. The biggest increases in the past 2 years have been in the fast food industry. And the Democrats count them as good jobs.Do righties think that creating minimum wage jobs is the same as creating career tracked good paying jobs?
Not the "same" but far better than just giving people money to not work at all.

Those who work at McDonalds and Toys R Us have my respect.

Those who sit on their sofa's with their hands out-stretched have none of my respect.
And the DemocRATS have created what kind of jobs? 0

Giving out government jobs to DemocRAT buddies that aren't self sustaining is not working.
Jobs is jobs - for accounting purposes.
If they don't want the job, then they don't have to take them. I guess that zero dollars is better than minimum wage?
Entry level jobs teach young people how to hold a job. There's nothing wrong with them.
a job is a job,its keeps people off govt. assistance ,lefty dummy.
A job is a job. How many jobs did 0bama's "stimulus" bill create?

I think i have been applying for a job at mcdonalds wrong(i know) can somebody help me?

ok so i think i have been giving them the wrong info not on purpose but becuase i have never had a job so can you guys please tell me what to do..when they ask what i am applying for i put crew member. when they ask what pay i want i put minimum wage.when they ask what i wana work i put part time and that i am avalible for 48 hours a week..is any of this wrong because i feel like it is?..ive added the link so u guys can check it out and tell me what you think

http://www2.mcmichigan.com/careers/apply_online/23429/crew,en,~/#applyI think i have been applying for a job at mcdonalds wrong(i know) can somebody help me?
Everything seems to be correct except for the fact that you put you want to work part time but that you want 48 hours a week. Part time would be around 20 hours a week and full time would be about 40 hours a week. So do you really want to work 8 hours a day 6 days a week?

I assume that by 48 hours a week you mean that you are available that many hours but you don't actually want to work all 48 hours that you are available. In this space they want you to put your desired number of hours.

If you do want to work 8 hours a day, you would have to change it to wanting to work full time, and you would change the numbers available to 40, not 48 because they will not schedule you for 48 hours a week.

Good luck with getting the job!I think i have been applying for a job at mcdonalds wrong(i know) can somebody help me?
You tell then that you want to work part time. That's usually about 20 hours a week, maybe slightly more. Full time is 40 hours a week, but then you tell them you are available 48 hours a week. That's full time plus one extra day. When you apply again put down the hours and days you want to work -

    example: M-F 8 AM-12PM or M-W-F 4PM till 11 PM (closing).

  • Do you think many of the large universities in America are jokes now?

I read an article in my newspaper today about how a University of Missouri sociology professor believes Saginaw's inner-city schools' dress codes are inherently racist against minority dress and culture.

Excuse me, I grew up with dress codes in the islands, where schools are a lot more civil and disciplined than the states. It keeps the focus on schoolwork.

Idiot professors like that one are a prime example of why today's universities are simply not preparing students for the real world. When I went to the University of Michigan, there was an emphasis on driving students away from real careers towards liberal arts majors that would benefit the academic bums who teach those majors. Some of my professors and graduate students were total weirdos who couldn't last a day at McDonald's. A lot of the studies these schools release are laughing stocks...like the one that said men only like hot women...WOW, shock!

Should these schools lose their accreditation?Do you think many of the large universities in America are jokes now?
You want to take accreditation away from an entire university because one professor makes one very normal comment with which you don't personally agree? Maybe the whole concept of academic freedom isn't completely clear to you. The whole idea of a university is a free exchange of ideas. You don't punish a university because you don't like something that someone said, especially if, as in this case, it doesn't harm anyone. This is exactly what does prepare people for the "real world" (an offensive concept anyway; in no other part of the world are universities seen as "unreal"); they are exposed to a variety of ideas and opinions, allowing them to shape their own in an informed manner, rather than scoffing in a nasty manner at the world..

As someone who has worked in both business and academia, I can tell you that while I've met some odd academics, they don't compare to the weirdness of some of the people I've worked for and with in business. There are odd people everywhere. And I'm willing to bet that no academic researcher did a study to say that men only like hot women, although that may be how someone chose to report it in your local paper.

What does everyone think about a full time career at McDonald's?

a full time career at least the next 3 years or so, i will be starting my managers course at the end of this month but im not sure what i think about itWhat does everyone think about a full time career at McDonald's?
I think it is a honest job and you have to work hard, I don't care what kind of job you get there will always be rude, mean people no matter what, that's just the way they are. you will never please everyone no matter what you do.What does everyone think about a full time career at McDonald's?
sure if you like a high stress job, and dealing with rude people. somebody is always wanting to complain to the manager. everyone does it at least once in their life, i'm sure.
The term 'McJob' doesnt exist for no reason...What does everyone think about a full time career at McDonald's?
An individual I went to college with was a manager for McDonalds's. It is a global corporation and it well respected in the business world. If you like the environment, it is something you should explore.

You may wish to check out a company called LTS, they offer very valuable advice for someone like yourself. They are located at www.learntosucceed.biz.
Forget what other people say. You can use all the training you receive here to move into many things down the track. And would these same people be giving you cr*p if you bought into one of the stores and were earning the money the current owners do? I think not!!

It is not like you are salting the fries for the next 3 years. They will put you thorugh some good study and you will learn a lot. I knnow a lot of people in the industry and they have all gone on to good roles and the ones who have stayed are doing quite well.

It really comes down to how driven you are. You can work in another industry with no "stigma" but still be a Pleb.

Take it on and good luck I say - better to have some skills behind you in this day and age anyway you can. What does everyone think about a full time career at McDonald's?
My son startted his full-time "McJob" when he finished yr12. He is now a store manager and has almost completed his advanced diploma of Business.

Stigma be B*ggered; it is an honest job with excellent training and if you decide to leave after gaining the experience, you will be better respected in the "real world".

    Go for it i say.
there is nothing wrong with working at mcdonald's. if the environment is right and you feel as though you can move up, why not?

Apparently many college graduates can not find any jobs and therefore it seems as if they wasted a large sum of money on school. The fact that going to college is basically worthless because once you get out you'll either be unemployed or be making minimum wage, I hate to admit it but it is the truth. This generation of college students have a hard time to face. What jobs are in high demand with decent salaries that I can actually support myself with. Please dnt give me tht optimist bull crap about you should do wat makes you happy even if you get low pay(well this philosophy does not wrk out anymore because of the unemployment rate) Lets be real, I am a realist. We live in a horrible economy where the employment rate is high in our United States. Seriously, do I need to move to a different country(not canada, they have a high unemployment rate too) Or Do I major in Biology and accept a low paying job as a teacher with the possibility of getting laid off, or do I major in Business with the possibility of being assistant manager at McDOnalds? Lets be honest, Bachelors arent worth **** anymore, MAsters became the new bachelors. So do I Have to get a Ph.D just to get a job tht pays 60,000 or more.WHAT Jobs/Careers are in High Demand these days with decent pay?College generation is in TROUBLE!?
CRNA. get paid good, week ends off, school payments and responsibilities less than an MD.WHAT Jobs/Careers are in High Demand these days with decent pay?College generation is in TROUBLE!?
I earned a bachelors of social work in 2010. I am currently unemployed, but sure if I keep looking may find a job that pays AT LEAST $37-39,000; That is...if I am lucky. While I knew this career did not pay much to start out...it is even worse now. I would advice to take up a skill/trade. It won't take as long as a degree, you will be marketable due to having a skill, and you can even take that skill to another country...possibly. Yes, a masters is the new bachelors, but it also cost a lot of money to obtain it. I went to grad school for a semester across the states, and it was financial hell and back. Now is not a good time to pursue a 4 year degree. Get that skill

Why does the McDonald's Career website have an internet attack warning?

I'm trying to apply to work at McDonald's. On the website it tells me to click the link to search for jobs. When I click the link it says something like "this has been flagged as an attack site" or something. And on Google the site says "This may harm your computer." But it seems like it should be a trusted website. Should i go for it? www.mcstate.comWhy does the McDonald's Career website have an internet attack warning?
you are over qualified to work there.

    How do double majors work?

I am thinking I want to double major in politics and government/ international relations.

    Would this be hard?

Can I have a minor? Because I want to take another language.

Also, what can I do as far as careers come?

Please don't say stuff like "work at mcdonald's".

I see it as if you are really passionate about something, you will find a good job.How do double majors work?
Usually you'll enroll and begin school with the "primary" major and then after getting started, then add the second major. Talk to your faculty advisor about this plan for assistance in planning your schedule. Adding the language as another area of study is a good idea too. Usually the courses that count as specific requirements for one major will count as elective credits for the other so doing a double major may be easier than you think. Your areas are related, so that should work well. It is a little extra work, and may require an additional semester or two, but if it puts you on a path that is exciting, it is worth it.

I can't offer anything except general thoughts about what careers are possible. Talk to professors in your major and ask them, but I bet there are lots of interesting options. Go for it!

  • Is it wrong to work at McDonalds at my age?

I am slowly going back into the job field and have many interviews. As being a college student and have a family to attend to(I'm 30 BTW) Is there anything wrong with working at McDonalds part time until I am done with my studies? I was offered a position to work for them but I told them I would like to keep my options open as I have other interviews. If I do not get hired at my other interviews,This is my last resort

It is awkward as a person my age should have a successful career but I look at it as bringing home a paycheck to help with the billsIs it wrong to work at McDonalds at my age?
Absolutely not! You do what you have to do. You have to pay the bills somehow.

For instance, a friend of mine, she works as a medical technician/researcher in a hospital during the day, and does waitressing at night.

Another is an aspiring musician who works full-time at Burger King.

So you are not alone! Is it wrong to work at McDonalds at my age?
do this..... research the average age of general managers of Mcdonalds franchises..... also, how long did they work at Mcdonalds before being promoted to the position of general manager..... also, what is their average income. not only will the answers likely surprise you, you just may be turning down other job offers that seem better for you in the short term. Best of luck to you, and hold your head high for being responsible enough to do whatever is necessary to take care of your family.
no a paycheck is a paycheck, I took a production plant job while in college for a medical degree, as long as it brings a paycheck in the helps your family, work there. and it will help on your interviews so a future employer can see that you can hold down a job and they see you as productive and worthy of their position. Is it wrong to work at McDonalds at my age?
Hunny, it is perfectly fine to do it as a pathway to be a more successful person. Now, if you were living off welfare with no plans for improvement or with an entire lack wanting to go to work, or not working on studies, or planned on sticking to McD's for the rest of your life - it would be something to be embarrassed about. But you are just trying to do what you can to help your family, and that is honorable. You go girl!
It's never wrong to do what must be done to pay the bills and support your family. I think it would be more wrong to refuse a job because you feel it's beneath you and, all the while, get behind on your bills and not support your family properly. Is it wrong to work at McDonalds at my age?
There is absolutely nothing wrong with working for McDonald's. There is never anything wrong doing honest work to support your family, what would be wrong is sit back, wait and get into serious financial difficulties that could cause serious problems later.
hold your head up,at least its not your career.. i feel sorry for people who dont take advantage of the programs out there to get you back into school.. do what you have to do.
NO! :D Its fine working at any age at mcdonalds :D I've seen thousands of people your age and I really like seeing them there :D they aren't spoiled as the young ones ;) I love seeing adults there :) They know how to take care of mcdonalds :) I hope to see you there :)
NO YOUR MAKING AN HONEST LIVING AND YOUR DOING WHAT YOU NEED TO DO TO GET BY. YOUR DOING IT TO MEET GOALS FOR YOUR FUTURE SO I SEE NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT.
Absolutely not! It's a great company.

Is it only me, or other employees at Mcdonalds think it sucks?

I have been working at McDonald for the past 5 years. Been a shift manager for 3 years. I see other people who answered other shift manager question on this site said they really like working at Mcdonalds. I talk to other shift manager at work and some say and they say they like working there and its a good career. I have been working there full time for the past 3 1/2 years and now i started going full time school. I "hate" working there but i don't know what else to do? I have to keep me and my employee busy the whole time i'm there. Have employees hate me. I make a messily 50 cents more than the minimum wage. I can go on but by this point i be most of you stopped reading. lol. what r your suggestions. Is it only me, or other employees at Mcdonalds think it sucks?
Honey if you are looking for a job change try Kroger they are paying 23.00 an hour for checkers and Con Agra is paying 29.00-34.00 for jobs, and hit your boss up with the vact one of the ads says MCD is paying 15.98 an hour for workers, I have a feeling you are not making that, and should be, look for the ad on yhaoo answers and print it and hand it to your bossIs it only me, or other employees at Mcdonalds think it sucks?

If you hate it so much then go get another job? Duh?

You obviously have a lot of experience working in a fast paced environment, and have experience in management. You can take that and apply that to a better job. I hate working there too but my goal is to become a manager just like you so I can do exactly what I just suggested for you to do. I don't wanna work there the rest of my life. It's just a building block for a better career. Is it only me, or other employees at Mcdonalds think it sucks?
Some people are just not cutout for working in the restaurant business. Some people who are seem to enjoy %26amp; then grow into the work. There are some who get 5 yrs of experience and others who only to one yrs of experience for 5 times.

I met a woman who started in McD's when she was in high school many many yrs ago. She is the owner of 2 McD's stores now with the help of the company. Her experience seems to have been a very good one.
I've been at McDonald's for 2 years, and I'm becoming a crew trainer soon (basically am one already), and I love it. I seriously never want to leave. Is it only me, or other employees at Mcdonalds think it sucks?
I worked there two months and hated it

I want to quit McDonalds, but I can only give them a weeks notice?

I have a bit of a dilema. I have got an interview for a 5 star hotel (my dream job basically) as a commis chef (my passion) this Friday and the woman I rung said I have the strongest chance out of the 3 other candidates due to my location and the college I go to (I also do catering there) since they employee a lot of us from there.

However, due to this, I have to give the notice a week in advance, not 2 weeks. I also feel quite bad for leaving considering the people there are amazing and the first question I got asked in the interview was your not going to find another job are you and is this what you want to do.

But this job to me is once in a life time, and at amazing pay and hours (McDonalds have been F**king my hours up big time).

Is it ok to give them a weeks notice? The problem is the job will start on the 18th of July if I get the job. This is why I can only give a weeks notice.

I really need some good advice here, and obviously cause I'm a high grade student with a good history I don't want to mess up my career history.I want to quit McDonalds, but I can only give them a weeks notice?
You have to discuss this with your manager, explain your situation, say your sorry and that you have really enjoyed working there, and hopefully she will understand and allow you to give one weeks notice if needed.

If not, then I'd give them 2 weeks notice, and you could then try and swap your shifts with others in the second week.

If you don't want your hours completely cut until you know, this is something you have to discuss with the manager, explain exactly what is going on, and what your problem is, and they should take it into consideration.

Good Luck!I want to quit McDonalds, but I can only give them a weeks notice?
Do what I did when I quit my first job which was at Maccas. Eat all the chicken nuggets then flip off the manager as you walked up the stairs, stole a large bag of M%26amp;M minis and then straight out the door.I want to quit McDonalds, but I can only give them a weeks notice?
Why not just talk to ur manager and explain the situation? Tell him there's a chance u may get this job but it isn't certain yet and giving a week's notice is risky. I'm sure the manager will help u out.I want to quit McDonalds, but I can only give them a weeks notice?
Unless you are contractually bound, or there is a law in the country/province/state you work in that states you are required to give two weeks notice, you can walk out the door with no notice if you need to. It's not professional, but it's perfectly legal.

So here's the way to look at this: McDonald's is a job. Chef at a hotel is a career. Do what's best for you.

As soon as you are offered and accept the Chef job, quit the McDonald's job, and tell them when your last day needs to be. Be sincere in that you would like to give as much notice as possible, but this is all you are able to give. You don't have to tell them why you are leaving. Just tell them you have made a decision to move on in your career. End of story. You may find that they just cut your hours and let you go the minute you give notice. That's legal too.

No one will be left to work in mcdonalds in future, Is it true?

I live in Ireland - just so ya know

Okay I was thinking and -

Everyone is telling everyone else that you need to go to College/University inorder to get a job in the future. Now everyone in my school is thinking of a professional career - Doctors/Solicitors/Teachers etc. So if every student in Ireland is planning on a good, sensible career (just pretend that all of these plans will work perfectly) who will be left to work in the low paid jobs like mcdonalds. Soon enough no one at all is going to be willing to work in such a shitty paid job. 鈧?0p/h is not going to get anyone very far?

So if the government get what they want - everyone to be very educated (at least degree level) who will be left to work in the shitty jobs?No one will be left to work in mcdonalds in future, Is it true?
There will always be under skilled workers in Ireland. There are teenagers and people with limited capacity that will have no other choice. It is McDonalds so I am pretty sure they will not go down without a fight. No one will be left to work in mcdonalds in future, Is it true?
    A) I don't know about Ireland, but college in america can be very expensive. As long as there are people who cant afford college, there will always be someone who will be willing to work a minimum wage jog to get by.

B)There will always be people who don't care about their future.
There will always, be teenagers, college students, immigrants, and the jobless working in these types of jobs. Like the answer before, they are the under-skilled.No one will be left to work in mcdonalds in future, Is it true?
There will ALWAYS be under skilled people who have no other choice. ALWAYS.Teens, College students, Older retired people, dumb as*es, and people with no drive/motivation.
The Italians of course. Just look at the Jersey Shore, you think any of those kids are capable of graduating college? They have the words "Fastfood Manager" written all over them!!!No one will be left to work in mcdonalds in future, Is it true?
Philosophy, English and History graduates will be available to work at McDonalds.

Which pays better as a Manager Mcdonalds, DQ, Pizza Hut, Burger King, Dominoes, Sonic?

Heres the deal. I work in the service industry and have done so full time for about 2 yrs, and part time for the last 5 yrs. I am 27, I was in the military for 8 yrs. I know many are thinking Why the hell are you in the restaurant buisness? Well Im not back home, Im in a small place in texas, I love it here. I love dealing with people, I also love law enforcement. I am a single father who is not TCLEOSE cert., alos law enforcement doesnt pay good at all where Im at. Its mostly retired people in beautifull comunity on the lake with great schools. So I am waiting tables, and doing better (if you broke it down by hour) than most local cops. I do wanna get into management. Nice sit down restaurant managers start about 38 to 42k a year and go up from there. Problem is regardless of my leadership and other life experiences in the military, they all want you to have a 4 yr degree or 3 to 4 yrs restaurant management expierience. So I am thinking of down grading to fast food but only to upgrade my career and better myself, and apply for managemnt, of course I wouldnt take anything less than salaried manger position in fast food place, so which fast food place is best to work for, and what are the average starting salaries for each? Mcdonalds, Dominoes, Pizza Hut, Jack in the Box, Taco Bell, Burger King, Dairy Queen, Sonic etc... etc... Also what do you think of me downgrading to fast food but to upgrade my career and start climbing the stepping stones of life? Eventualy once I managed fast food for 3 or 4 yrs I would go back in to nice dining!??

Please keep in mind Im not talking about a shift supervisor/ assistant manager I am talking about an actual manager!Which pays better as a Manager Mcdonalds, DQ, Pizza Hut, Burger King, Dominoes, Sonic?
and by actual manager, i assume you mean like a GM (general manager). i think if you're going to downgrade to invest your time in a fast food position, you're dumbing down your abilities. why not go back to school and get a decent education then? and if it's that bad where you want to be in restaurant business, work your way to the top from a big sit down restaurant rather than changing companies and types of food. personally, i think being a fast food manager shouldn't be an aspiration. i'm not knockin' it. i think it's great you have goals. i just think with a background like you have, why not make more of it?

  • Working at mcdonalds?

ok couple of questions. i am in serious need of a job, and mcdonalds is a pretty easy place to get one. everyone says it sucks. but can it really be that bad? i mean im not looking for a career, just a job until i find something better.

also, my friend just got hired there and she can only work 2 days a week due to college, and she makes 7.25/hr. if i get hired, will i absolutely start out at that rate, or can it be higher? at my last job i made 8.05 and i put that on the mcdonalds application.

if anyone works there can you tell me in detail what it is like? im not lookin for, it sucks or get a better job, or somethin stupid like that. this is my only resort right now so i need serious answers.'

    thank youWorking at mcdonalds?
How many jobs have you had? You mention one previously, where you made $8.05/hour--did you start out at that pay rate? McDonalds is often considered a starting place to gain experience--the hours can be flexible, the job takes no special skills. And you may get raises. Usually you start out doing cleaning--i.e. emptying garbage bins, cleaning garbage off tables and throwing out, wiping tables down, mopping floors, taking garbage to outside bin, etc. Then you move up to cash. My nephew started there in grade 7 I believe and by grade 11 he was an assistant manager. It looks good on his resume, because he stuck with it and received promotions until he reached the highest position for a non-career employee, that is, he was going to study for a different career, not stay to manage a McDonalds. Don't consider it a last resort, but a great opportunity. Your hard work could be recognized with promotions, or more hours which will give you more money, or salary increases. There are tons of worse jobs.Working at mcdonalds?
alot of people say you failed in life if you end up working at mcdonalds but its not true.I went after school the other week for some food, and I saw this girl, who used to go to my school. She started off as just serving burgers, moved up to assistant manager and said she gets promoted all the time. So it sounds like Mcdonalds is the good option to work your way up and obviously as you get promoted your pay goes up,but if you just want to earn some extra money then why not?. there are worst jobs :L

Im a college graduate, who wants to work at McDonalds, here is why, what do you think?

So Im a college graduate, B.A. Finance Economics, and Ive been unemployed for a few years, mainly because I quit my last job to change career paths and go to school for something else. I ended up studying a few different things, engineering and art mainly, and I have a deep passion for both.

What I really want to do is pursue art because I am VERY good at it and believe that I can make a career out of that if I press it hard enough, maybe even become famous one day because I have a unique creative style that I haven't really seen anyone do. So, I want to work at McDonalds because I want the freedom of being able to work at night, so that I can do my art in the day. I paint, so it requires a lot of concentration and a clear mind, I feel that a 9-5 job would tire me out too much and I would not be able to paint very well or even paint at all. I dont paint well at night, the lighting sucks, and I just dont have a great work area for it.

SO, I WANT to work a night job, and I feel that a McDonalds job will not stress me out, and it will give me the flexibility I need in order to pursue a career in Art. What I want to do is get an MFA in Painting and then work at a museum or teach college or high school art, but I still need more artwork for my portfolio, and I need the TIME to paint. I can work at night, sleep less hours than I do now, and paint a few hours in the day every day, then back to work, then sleep, get up and paint, and repeat till I achieve what I want.

Problem is, everybody is pushing me to find a 9-5, because thats the "RIGHT" thing to do.

I feel that I am almost being pushed to do something that OTHER people want me to do for STATUS %26amp; money, and not for happiness. I care more about leaving behind a painting legacy than I do about money. Although I did get a B.A., I dont think that will go to complete waste, I feel that will be useful later in life when I need business management skills to sell and market my art.

What do you think?Im a college graduate, who wants to work at McDonalds, here is why, what do you think?
You do NOT want to work at a McDonald's if you're looking for a job that will 'not stress you out'. Working at a fast food restaurant is THE most stressful job you could apply for. If you're working on the counter taking orders, the managers push you to take order quickly to get everybody out. If you're getting the food for the orders on counter, the managers are pushing you to do it quickly to get everybody out and to keep times down. You'll learn more about that if you take the job. If you're handing out in drive-thru, the managers will push you to get everybody out quickly to keep times down. If you're getting the food for drive thru, they push you to go quickly to keep times down.

EVERYTHING is about doing things quicklyquicklyquickly and 'getting that car out of drive thru before they're there more than 20 seconds' kind of fast. If you work in grill, the managers push you to get food out quickly. And if you get the mean managers, they'll do it in the most unpleasant way possibly.

Then there's the customers. Depending on what hours you work, you'll get 8 solid hours of as*sholes from the 9-5, 8 solid hours of as*sholes from the 10-6 and etc. Some of them are polite, yes, but you'll mostly get the people who want their food 5 seconds after they order it and then b*tch at you if their food isn't in front of them in that time frame. Or, you get the people who throw their food at you if you forgot to give them 'hot, fresh fries' or miss one of their precious sauces that they'll just DIE without having, to dip their nuggets in.

Please, if you want to work at a night shift place, do NOT choose McDonalds.Im a college graduate, who wants to work at McDonalds, here is why, what do you think?
It's honestly not a good choice. It doesn't pay well. It IS stressful. If you ever plan to marry, working at a fast food restaurant will not pay for their college tuition. Just make sculptures and sell them like Spencer from iCarly.
You know your happiness. Trust yourself. You know yourself better than they ever will.Im a college graduate, who wants to work at McDonalds, here is why, what do you think?
i think that is a great idea i would do the same exact thing, i hope to see your art someday :)
Its your money and your life. However, you're going to awake and clear in the day after working all night?Im a college graduate, who wants to work at McDonalds, here is why, what do you think?
Do whatever makes you happy! Go ahead! It's your life! : )
i think you should do w/e you feel is right for you. yes, peoples want what's best for you in life, but the choice you want could be the best for you at the moment. there are other places that could possibly work for a night job other then a fast food place; try retirement homes, retail, anything that could also give you a part-time position %26amp; a flexible work schedule. it's all up to you though on what you want to do =)
This sounds like it would make a good movie. You could work at a porn shop too because you won't have to worry about running into people you know. And if you do, they're the embarrassed one. I encourage you to do your art if its what you love. You only live once!
    too long to read

but if you think that it's "less stressful" to work in McDonald's, then you're dead wrong! The most stressful and "hard" jobs are many times minimum paid job!!

It's good to chase your dream I encourage you to do so especially if you're still young; but if you think it's easy to work in McDonald's, then you're very wrong
You should get a job that allows you to per sue your dream. One art related, so you could enjoy it. Or, become a full time student at an art school? There you will have plenty of time to expand your portfolio %26amp; what not. The main thing is that you can paint and draw well. I think that would matter more than how many paintings you have done.. Show people what you can do.

Do not work their. Mcdonalds is another american soul sucking heartless corperation bent on turning the countrys population into wage slaves. Mcdonalds will give you very bad pay for part time. Id suggest being a taxi cab driver, night route.
You should follow your dreams. When you die, it is YOUR life that flashes before your eyes, not all these peoples lives who are telling you what to do.

Also, if the prospect of working at McDonald's is scary to you, realize that nothing is forever. Commit to giving it a try. You can always change your mind. Just be respectful of everyone involved, and realize you are free to follow your dreams, even if your dreams change suddenly and often.

Why is a fast food place like McDonald's a bad career?

i have to right this essay about a career i DISLIKE the most and i chose fast food like McDonald's or Jack in the box. and i have no idea of what to write about why it is a bad career..Why is a fast food place like McDonald's a bad career?
Why I wouldn't want a career as a McDonalds manager.

    1. Salaries are moderate at best.

    2. Long hours, late hours, weekend hours.

    3. Repetitive, unrewarding work.

    4. What's to feel good about serving people garbage food?

    5. High employee turnover. Why is a fast food place like McDonald's a bad career?
If you work in a franchised store there is little room to move up but in a operated store people do move up to executive position. Not many but it is not unheard of. McD's is a good job for students and it looks great on a resume (fast paced, demanding) but as a career it wouldn't be my first choice but for some people, they don't have a choice.
I work at McDonald's and i am going to college but people tend to forget that some of us are just there to get to a better place. so the customers are very rude and many get enraged easily. For example we had this one man throw 2 shakes on the floor because "they didn't look like the picture" and frankley that is something we hear a lot. For the staff and the people i work with they all love drinking and the sleep around with each other, and then later wonder why they have conflict at work. No one is ever on time but a small handfull of people, and most of my managers eat on the clock and sit down or txt or even call someone on the phone. McDonald's is a very unstructured work place depending on the franchise. Also to get a raise is a little easier than everyone thinks but moving up is like trying to move a moutain. I may just have bad luck with this one. But it wears you down having to deal with these kind of people everyday. Also there is no sense of acomplishment its just hurry to get the food out and repeat it over and over to you have to go home. I do have to give credit to those who do work at McDonald's and do, do what they are suppost to but most of them are lazy, unpunctual and have no work ethic. ...................I hope this helps :) i know this is pretty much a "me" story but i hope you can get parts out of here! :)Why is a fast food place like McDonald's a bad career?
People say that there is no room to move up. You don't make enough money, and the pay is not great.

But you do have to learn how to crawl before you can take off running. So I feel that McDonald's is a

good place for a young person to start. He can learn many things. How to be responsible,How to get along with others and learn skills .Math, cooking, cleaning, counting, inventory etc.
Because you don't get a raise ever and managers may only make 12 dollars an hour tops

Crappy hours, dealing with customers, and having to clean up some disgusting messes. Not worth the 7.25 an hour.

    mine?

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?鈥?/a>Why is a fast food place like McDonald's a bad career?
well some people might say fast food places are DEAD END jobs cuz of no college exp or whatever....therefore an office job is better...but the way i see it..a job is a job enough said!
because of the little pay, and minimum requirements.
It might not be the best choose but it is still a job with pay.
    low pay
i agree a job is a job it might not be the best but it still pays

Please keep in mind Im not talking about a shift supervisor/ assistant manager I am talking about an actual manager!Manager at Mcdonalds, DQ, Pizza Hut, Burger King, Dominoes, Sonic? Which pays better?
Ok well I am going to answer the second part of your question first. I am an Army vet with 12 yrs in service. I too am in the food industry. I own a microbrewery with a restaurant in it and i have to tell you that if you were in my area i would be glad to hire you as an assistant manager based on the experience youve listed. I know that you want to be a "manager" and not an asst to one but im fairly certain that even in fast food you wont be getting hired as a manger right out of the gate. All this may sound like a bit of a soup sandwich but youre going to need some light managing experience before you get hired as a general manager.

My suggestion to you is to go around to all of the localy owned restaurants in your area and explain your situation, your needs and you goals to the owners and see if you cant get hired on at least as an asst manager temporarily so that you have a necessary rung on the ladder of your career completed.

One boot in front of the other soldier

    Good luck

I'd go for Either McDonalds or Burger King. It's hard work

but the pay is pretty good

    as you've mentioned.

    Good Luck !!

~Manager at Mcdonalds, DQ, Pizza Hut, Burger King, Dominoes, Sonic?
well in florida the average mcds manager starts out at 9 an hour.. i was one for 2 years..then i left and now i cook at dennys (a breakfast restaurant).. the thing that probably helped me was being food safety certified since i was 19 when i started cooking at dennys.. you should definitely think about the management at a restaurant though.. remember sometimes knowing the right person can get you anywhere..
If you can get a DQ franchize i definetely would. I know a lady who owns one and shes living pretty good.Manager at Mcdonalds, DQ, Pizza Hut, Burger King, Dominoes, Sonic?
idk but not McDonalds...trust me i tried that gig for a while you dont want to associate with those people.
My boyfriend managed a fast food restaraunt for a year and he mnake around $10 an hour. He was able to buy whatever he wanted and have a nice life. Do whats in your heart and best for your child and dont look at is a a fast food job, but a means to support yuorself and family. And then maybe you can go to school while you work as a manager.Manager at Mcdonalds, DQ, Pizza Hut, Burger King, Dominoes, Sonic?
Not sure about all fast food ( though i assume) but you cant just walk in and be a manager at mcdonalds ( at least corp, franchise might be different) You must start as a crew and work up- it is in their rules- unless you have a completed 3 stages of MDP and and are in BLP. You also have to have a Diploma or Retail Management and a certain amount of exp.. Now if you had a buisness degree, you could start as an hourly paid manager, but thats the best you are gonna do. Otherwise, you must work up the ladder;(.
Your not going to walk in anywhere and get a job as store manager just like that. Your going to have to do the same thing they did, which is work their way up the ladder! I work for McDonald's and my owner and I have talked. He got his first job as a teenager and worked his way up the ladder. Nothing in life is handed to you. Being a man of the military, I would think you'd understand that!
Instead of downgrading for three to four years, just spend that time getting your degree. That will open a lot more doors for you in life and allow you to comand even more money for your work. You should think about going for Hotel/Restaurant Managment. Most schools offer a degree in this field or you could even get a two year degree and probably go farther then you would with downgrading to fast food.
BK is good. That's where I'm at. You shouldn't think of it as a short term thing though. It can be a great career. the only thing is that I work for the corporation which is almost exclusively east coast. In Texas you would be working for a franchisee which I think pays less and less room for advancement. I made 65,000 last year with an all inclusive trip to the tropics thrown in to boot. I have an interview this week to move up a level as well. The opportunitys with the corporation are plentiful and benefits are pretty good too. I guess any of these companies are OK but you should look at getting into a corporate environment. Then as hard as you work is how fast you advance.

  • Should i quit mcdonalds?

i have been working at mcdonalds for about a month now. They only gave me part-time so i only work about 18 hours a week. I try my best and always try to do something not just stand around like others do but some of the managers get frustrated with me sometimes because i mess up. I try my best but its not enough...working at fast food is DEFINELTY stressful ..not only that i am committed to a program that is going to help me later on in my career and i have mtngs once a week plus events that i have to attend. Since mcdonalds always changes my schedule around i can't sign up for these events because i do not know if i can attend..anyways i am going to be 19 years old and this is my first "official" job but i was offered another job ..i am actually confident i can get any other job later on and for the mean time i have a way of supporting myself financially...so should i quit now my mcdonalds job since i havent even done the three months or should i wait until college starts and use that as an excuse? i really want to work but these managers don't want to teach me...they literally ignore me! and i don't want to get fired so i'd rather quit..also what are some reasons they can fire you for?? thank you .Should i quit mcdonalds?
hi there. i work at mcdonalds aswell... and lets be honest: its no one's first pick.

but honestly, the work experience is great and looks awesome on a resume. especially if you get promoted and raises! there are so many skills that you learn, and yes, of course it's stressful but there is always going to be stress in a job.

i remember it was my first month and i was SO READY to quit (just like you) but i stuck it out. i found getting to know the other employees better made it a more enjoyable place to be, especially when you got on the manager's good sides.

i've been there for 2 years now and am in the shadow program (early management) and there's still times when i wanna quit.

and dont let them change your schedule around! they have availabilty sheets, if they don't abide by those feel free to complain about it. you can always say you can't work tuesdays or thursdays, even saturdays. dont let them limit your options :) and book time off if you need to!

they really only ever fire people if they skip work or show up late too many times... or i guess if you're incredibly incompetent with everything you do (rarely ever happens)

so all i can say is goodluck! sorry for the long answer.... :)Should i quit mcdonalds?
Look for jobs and send out resumes. www.hotjobs.com, www.careerbuiler.com look for a job you know you can be good at or will work hard to gain the experience once there. McDonald's is a job but you need more then 18 hours a week. You need a steady schedule so you have a life. Ask your parents to help you while you search for a better job if you think these meetings will give you a brighter future.
Find another job and then quit this one. It does not seem to be the right fit for you. Have you considered serving at a restaurant. I would consider Bob Evans (breakfast on weekend is awesome tip $) or Chili's. If one of these is local to you, see if they are hiring. You will make better money and may find a nicer environment. Good Luck to you.Should i quit mcdonalds?
If it's stressful for you, then you should quit working at McDonald's. Explain to your boss that you don't like the job, and hopefully your boss will understand and will fire you.
Just hang in there they always give the new guy crap at first!Should i quit mcdonalds?
Just stay and show them you aren't a quitter
Yes, it can be stressful, but, it is only stressful when it's happening.

It's great that you don't just stand around like some of the others, and if the managers are getting frustrated with you, that is their problem, and they obviously aren't very good managers. They should be accepting that you will make mistakes, because you are new.

I am a Crew Trainer at McDonald's, and yes, when new people make a mess of things it is a bit frustrating, but it is NOT your fault.

Once piece of advice I constantly reiterate to new starts is, if you do something wrong, and you know how to fix it, don't get flustered, don't try and rush it, just start again. If you don't know how to fix it, or feel unable to cope, let someone know, and they will help you. You are part of the team, and to help us, it's better to let us know that your struggling, so we can help you.

I'm not saying you should stay, that is upto yourself, but, think about how the people who have been there for a while are with each other. Are they friends or are they just working together, as I remember when I started, some people were quite territorial and basically wanted to give me the short straw every time, but, as I got to know them, they have become good friends, but the store has always had a friendly atmosphere about it - I know some don't.

In my experience it is a good job, and it is always a good experience to have.
i can tell you something, its almost like they want to see what happens when they do that. the changing schedule, manager getting frustrated, the stress... cant you see it? Think of it as a test.

what happens if you pass? great, looks like we can Riley on em and keep em. what if you fail? oh, i knew it, that was a waste. dont be a waste, hang in there!!!!!

just tell yourself you can do it, youll make it! i promice, besides, they awlays do that to new people anyway, well, so far i know.

Just dont give up, prove how commited you are!

and sine your schedule changes to where you cant attend the meetings, pull your supervisor, your manager or whoever is in charge and let em know that your schedule prevents you from attending the meetings. they'll most likley understand and might even make it to where you can attend.

keep the fait, eye on the prize, good luck to ya

What jobs would you suggest to a college student trying to live in an apt.?

I need a job where I can raise at least 700 a month for rent and groceries and other crap. Does anyone have a suggestion? I can't just work at McDonald's or whatever but I don't have enough experience for a real career (I'm majoring in graphic design) Help! I really wanna move out so I can get financial aid and, yaknow, be on my own! What jobs would you suggest to a college student trying to live in an apt.?
As a struggling college student I always envied the "easy tip money" my bartending friends made. One friend made upwards of $500 on a good Friday or Saturday night. He essentially worked three nights a week and had the other four days off!!! If you live in a state that hasn't banned smoking in public places you're in for a nasty surprise. If, on the other hand, smoking is banned in all public places in your state (including bars) then by all means try out waitressing or bartending. Catering is also lucrative but far less dependable than the bartending. The downside to bartending is that those friends tended to "emulate" their burnout patrons after a while. They smoke, have a million tattoo's and talk like truck drivers these days - and they all went to college! I hate smoking so much that I didn't even consider you might be a smoker! Ignore what I said about smoking if you do. In that case, working in that kind of an environment should be a breeze for you. What jobs would you suggest to a college student trying to live in an apt.?
Don't be in such a rush. Just live with friends in an apartment. Share it. It'll be a great experience. What jobs would you suggest to a college student trying to live in an apt.?

I work at a golf course and go to school and I make pretty good money not just off of 8 dollaz an hour, but a lot off of tips. Golf courses usually allow for flexible hours since they aren't MULTI Billion dolla corporations and they are usually owned/managed by regular people. It also doesnt take a rocket scientist to drive a golf cart or carry someones golf bag for them to their car. Thats how u get tips. Most of the time it's optional.

How can I get hired to work on board a cruise ship?

I have been a manager at McDonald's for 2 years and I am Servsafe certified until 2014. I would like to become an employee on a cruise ship i believe it would be an exciting way to further my food service career any help is greatly appreciated. How can I get hired to work on board a cruise ship?
Go directly to the websites of all the major cruise lines and look for a link for job openings, careers, or something along those lines. Its usually buried in a menu or at the bottom of the page, but it will be there.

Then, just apply and hope it works out. Good luck. How can I get hired to work on board a cruise ship?
I've heard that the best way to get hired for a cruise ship restaurant is to have some hotel restaurant experience, because the two areas are very similar. See if any local hotels are hiring kitchen staff, and then use that experience to move up.

College courses in the culinary arts would really help you as well.

Well, they generally require 2 years experience in your chosen profession and you should be 21 years of age or older. If you meet these requirements the only way to apply is through the various cruise line websites. Simply go to the website, find the employment link, and follow it. Unlike the one answer states yes, they do hire Americans as long as they are willing to accept the conditions under which they work. Remember that the hours are long on a cruise ship and the pay is generally not the greatest. However in general room and board is also provided when working on the ship so this can be seen to be a part of your wages. There are some people who post regularly on here who did not like the cruise ship life and others who have worked for years and still enjoy it. It is up to the individual. How can I get hired to work on board a cruise ship?
If you are American, you can't. Except perhaps on the NCL "Pride", which sails only in Hawaii and has only American staff. Americans aren't willing to work under the conditions required to work on a cruise ship and they are not hired, except perhaps for the entertainment staff.

But you can go to any of the cruise lines' websites and click on "employment" for info. How can I get hired to work on board a cruise ship?
Go to the sites of the cruise lines you are interested in and click on careers, if you are american it would be easy for you to apply as you can do the entire process online and by phone interviews if you are not near the cruise lines headquarters (i.e. Royal Caribbean %26amp; Celebrity in Miami)

Restaurant service at a cruise ship is totally different to the one in McDonald's so take that on mind

Hope it helps! How can I get hired to work on board a cruise ship?
I do not see, where the experience at Mc D or the Servsafe will open any doors for you.

A waitress (having worked as such on land) will still start as a busgirl first.

Training onboard (USPH) is very different from land jobs.

The only job you might could get is Snack Utility (at the buffet, handing out food) and that is a real hard job and hardly paid.

I would suggest you first be a waitress on land in a good restaurant and then go from there.

For requirements for jobs, look up the cruise lines individual websites

How much money do you get for baby-sitting?

i need to talk about careers for young people for this english report i have and i really need to know.

and while im asking this, do you know how much money people working at mcdonald's get?How much money do you get for baby-sitting?
I ask for $125 per hour for baby-sitting

(that's probably why I don't get much business)

People working at Mickey D's here in Texas

get minimum wage... with exception of the management

    and...some management "trainees"...

    Sorry for the quip here

    I just couldn't help myself

鈽?////How much money do you get for baby-sitting?
With babysitting it really depends on the area of the country you live in and on the affluence of the family you're sitting for. Also the age of the babysitter-- a college student is going to generally get paid more than a high-school student. I am 26 and don't really babysit anymore, but I did more in college and generally got $8-12 / hour (the $8 families were much more financially burdened, and had fewer children, than the $10 and $12 ones).

  • Hi, what is your profession, do you like it and how l ong did it take you to get there? I am THINKING of going

to back to shcool for a carreer. Not a job as in McDonalds but a real career. I sometimes think I would be interested in Mental Health but I'm not sure. What kinds of jobs are there in mental health and how long does it take to study for ea one? I also would love interior design as I love moving furniture but I don't think my back would like me for doing that.

What I need to know basically, is what your profession is? How long it took you to study for it? How long have you been doing it? And did you need a special education in highshcool? For example the Army now only takes those who did well in high school and you don't get a 2nd chance with them. I heard one of the army's tests is to shooting bullets at you. (If I failed THAT test - I'd never have to worry about another one lol! But seriously there is a lot adult ed out there now and I'm wondering if I could study harder now than I did 30 yrs ago (BOY I feel old! I am looking for all professions and all differerent terms of study.Hi, what is your profession, do you like it and how l ong did it take you to get there? I am THINKING of going
I am currently a MSW (Master of Social Work) student. You mentioned that you would possibly like to work in the mental health field, social work is probably your best option if you take that route. With social work you can work in just about any setting. The social work perspective is that everyone is interconnected. The psychology perspective is that you have a disease (mental illness) and we will work to cure you of it. The MSW degree takes 5 years total if you do it right, 4 years undergrad majoring in social work, and one year for a masters. For psychology, it takes 4 years undergrad, 3 in masters and more in doctoral work... i'm not sure how much, but the thought of doctoral work just scared me, so I never asked.

    I hope that helps.

Which is a better/worse way to live?: Living for today or Living for tomorrow?

I see so many people who hate their lives either because they only do whats fun, which ends up being a life of partying yet working at McDonald's, and realize they have accomplished nothing- or on the other hand, those who give everything to their careers and forget/neglect everything else in life (friends and basically just enjoying life).Which is a better/worse way to live?: Living for today or Living for tomorrow?
I'm wondering why you can't have both?? Why can't when it's fitting to live for today and then other times live for tomorrow. When I'm at my job or in school I'm living for tomorrow. But on my weekends when I get to go out I'm living for today and taking advantage of my moment to have fun without thinking of tomorrow or my job or school just about me. I think you can truly have both if you just manage your time right. As long as your priorities are taken care of first why can't you have days for today too.Which is a better/worse way to live?: Living for today or Living for tomorrow?
You should live for today, because that's all you can do. But, the 2 ideas coincide in a way: You need to live in today, but always think about how you can potentially affect tomorrow. Don't do anything stupid today that you will regret tomorrow.

What do you all plan on doing after high school?

What is the most effective exercise regime for beginners that want to burn off weight?

Ok, I'm a high school senior and I way 291lbs. As much as I would like it to be, that weight isn't from muscles. As I start off my college career I want to lose all this weight and become fit. Any ideas on where to begin? By the way I work at McDonald's and that's only because they were the only store hiring at the time, so I have that working against me.What is the most effective exercise regime for beginners that want to burn off weight?
Know your health status before you get started. Full body workouts are best for burning fat. Work all muscle groups and do some cardiovascular exercises, but do not over do it. You're a beginner. As you progress you can do more. Note, when power training give each muscles a day to recuperate. Do not forget to stretch your muscles before exercising.

What do judges have to gain by legitimizing nonsense claims?

Or rather, what is in it for them? Why would they allow frivolous lawsuits or bogus cases any consideration? I understand a lawyer might defend clients for the paycheck or recognition for winning an absurd case. I can see how a plaintiff or defendant would like to cash in on or weasel through a loophole, but what exactly does the judge have to gain?

I can鈥檛 imagine it would be a shining career move to decide McDonald鈥檚 coffee is so hot that it warrants millions to a clumsy individual. Perhaps a jury decided on this case. I don鈥檛 remember. For that matter, are jurors selectively bred and chosen for their deranged rationale?

There are numerous cases to cite examples from: the thief who sues the homeowner for injuries sustained while breaking and entering, the drug trafficker who is pardoned and apologized to because of improper arrest procedures, or how about the killer who is released because they claimed insanity. Couldn鈥檛 we reason this defense for all crimes? Of course they鈥檙e insane, they senselessly murdered someone!

Our laws are open to far too much interpretation, and it seems that too many people exploit this.

That is probably enough ranting for one question. Consider all but the title question rhetorical if you like.

What is in it for the judge? What do judges have to gain by legitimizing nonsense claims?
Unfortunately, the answers are not always as easy as they seem. Judges make the common law, as opposed to the legislated law. That is, Judges interpret what they believe are the appropriate "gap fillers" between the existing laws.

Take, for instance, the McDonalds case. McDonalds did not have a $2.9 Million judgment (or one day's U.S. coffee sales for McDonalds) issued against them because some unfortunate older lady spilled coffee between her legs. They received that huge judgment against them because they failed to respond to the lawsuit, and later failed to respond to requests to respond and/or appear in Court. The multi-million dollar award was later reduced to $640,000.

So, again, to answer your question: Judges seek to find the truth AS APPLIED TO THE EXISTING LAWS. If you do not like Judges decisions, change your Senators and Representatives.

Good Luck! What do judges have to gain by legitimizing nonsense claims?
Badge and snow are probably both right

njyogi, I named cases based on memory, and refuse to research them to prove points to you. They were only examples to help clarify the primary question. Why would I bother asking questions if I knew it all? I asked the question for an answer, not to be insulted

Unfortunately I am new and chose a best answer before adding additional details. I wanted to add to the question and respond to the responses. In particular I wanted to express how much of a tool niyog is for bothering to add his comment here. I guess it's easy enough to gather anyway. Oh well

What do judges have to gain by legitimizing nonsense claims?
It's all about politics and getting their 15 minutes of fame.

This is part of the reason insurance cost have skyrocketed. Law suits that are so full of b/s and undeserving people making bank on them.
I think its all a big game. Judges started out as lawyers and enjoy providing an arena for current lawyers to make money. The whole legal system needs to revamped. right now justice is the reward for the person who has the most money to pay the lawyers. What do judges have to gain by legitimizing nonsense claims?
You sound like an obnoxious drunk guy on a barstool who is ranting and raving about stuff you know absolutely nothing about. This drug dealer who is apologized to--what's his name? where did this take place? and the injured burglar who sues the homeower--which court was that case brought in? did the burglar win? what was the date of that ruling? Yes, there was an old lady who burned herself on McDonald's coffee, which was served at just under the boililng point. She filed a lawsuit and won some money, the exact amount was not made public because she took a settlement in exchange for McDonalds dropping its appeal. Yyes, the case was decided by a jury but you weren't there in the jury room, you don't have all the facts they had, so maybe you don't know everything. If you really feel so strongly about judges, maybe you might turn off Fox News for once and read up on a subject before you claim to know it all. Some day you might have your arm sliced off by a the machine you operate down at the factory and your ability to have food on the table and shoes on your children's feet might depend on a jury looking fairly at your tale of woe, and I hope you get jurors who don't act like know-it-alls who say that guy deserves to have his arm sliced off. Oh, what's in it for the judge? You probably won't understand this but judges are human and not all are great but hopefully most of them try to be fair.

Is there any career you can have without needing a-levels?

I didn't get a chance to my a-levels at school and now im suffering for it. I was just wondering if theres any career you know of where they don't ask for a-levels and train you e.c.t... i know this seems an odd question and please don't say 'McDonald's' or stuff like that i just need to know of any. Have people gotten careers without going to uni?Is there any career you can have without needing a-levels?
Yes, they have... Lord Alan Sugar for starters!

I don't know how old you are or what experience you have in the workplace already but my suggestion is to think about what you are interested in and look for work in that field first. So if you are interested in children, think about working in childcare. If you are interested in food, find a job in the catering or food manufacturing industry, etc.

If you show enthusiasm and dedication to your work, your employer is more likely to invest in training you up to a higher level which will only go towards furthering your career in your chosen field. Is there any career you can have without needing a-levels?
As a person that is barely graduating from Highschool. Im also looking for a job that dosent require much experience. As i resersearched i found:

    http://jobs.aol.com/articles/2009/06/23/10-legit-jobs-that-dont-require-much-experience/

also if you go to google and just type entry level jobs

it will pop out alot of jobs that you dont need that much experience.

Im looking for a job as a receptionist and to be a receptionist you just need very little experience such as organization skills, minimum coputer skills like microsoft word and excel. customer service skills. like i said is just the basics.

i hope that helps XD. good luck!Is there any career you can have without needing a-levels?
    yes, business degrees etc...

Why do some people complain that Walmart doesn't pay enough to support a family?

Clerk positions at Walmart are part-time type jobs, like flipping burgers at McDonalds. Why would someone think a job that requires no skill or education or any other ability, pay like a career position? I read recently where a woman with five kids was complaining she couldn't support her family and her fiance' who was taking vocational classes on her 35 hours/week at Walmart. What am I not understanding? Do some people not know the difference between a job meant for supplemental income and a job meant to support a family? Why do some people complain that Walmart doesn't pay enough to support a family?
People don't understand supply and demand - yes, it applies to the job market too.

Those who are currently employed by Walmart and are hopeful that Walmart is somehow forced to raise their wages don't get it. If Walmart were to raise wages, it would then be a more desirable position, and someone more qualified would get it.

Right now Walmart may pay $8/hr for a high school drop out with no special skills to speak of. Why? Because that's the best person that wanted the job for that pay. You raise that to $10/hr and now you get some college students interested. Raise it a bit further to $13/hr or so and you get some people with 10+ years of experience in retail. Raise it to $60/hr and I might even consider working there.

That being said, the people who work at Walmart probably haven't been taught the laws of economics, so it's not hard to understand that they are complaining. Why do some people complain that Walmart doesn't pay enough to support a family?
You're right, but Walmart is notorious for being very bad employers. they have one of the highest turnover rate of all businesses. No benefits, no security, and no unions, in most locations. Up here in Quebec, Canada, a Walmart's employees finally won a union. Walmart's response? Close down the store and leave hundreds of people jobless.

35 hours is just hovering on full-time, and for a woman with 5 kids and a husband in school, it's likely she wouldn't be able to keep any full-time job. People in that position are desperate. Walmart takes advantage of people in her position, and doesn't care if she doesn't like it. If she quits, there's a hundred other desperate people right behind her to replace her spot.

You have to give her and her finance some credit - he's trying to educate himself so that he can go out and better support the family. But for right now, this woman has very few choices. Why do some people complain that Walmart doesn't pay enough to support a family?
No they did not educate themselves, and expect that the world and in this case Walmart owes them a living. No one told her to have 5 kids, that was her choice, so is getting an education and earning a better job. Bu an education I do not mean these quicky things you see advertised on TV those are just wasted certificates. Why do some people complain that Walmart doesn't pay enough to support a family?
I don't know what you are talking about, I have never heard about someone working at a place like walmart complaining about their wages. Everyone know that is a like a basement level minimum wage paying job.
Well that goes for most of the jobs now and days. So I will not give such a harsh answer as those above mine. I feel that there should be MORE jobs that pay better wages even if it is wal-mart cause alot of those companies take in Billions of dollars and choose to only compensate employees so much now and days. Yes I realize that there are many job categories such as high skilled and low skilled, but there are even people with college degrees or admireable backgrounds who cannot get a job making "liveable" wages or let alone even find a job. The problem is so simple but there are alot of morons out there who will not admit too it. And that is simply the cost of living out pacing wages in the job market now and days. But that process did not happen over night and is no surprise that the economy and housing market went tanking downhill. See the idea is too keep the prices of property as high as it can be to put more money in certain individuals pocket such as those all involved in the selling of property, pay Americans the lowest wages possible (outside of unions that is) and then extend credit to them at the same time so they can get by. So in my opinion, businesses may have a right to pay crappy wages in the ideology of capitalism which I don't agree with, but the damn cost of living and commodities should not outpace what the lower class Americans are making regardless of these phony "supply and demand" ideologies that are used to drive up prices for everything. Thats part of the many reasons the economy went downhill, yet the same practice and structures are still in place. Just as it always been and always will be no matter what happens, the rich will get richer and the poor will get poorer. Enough said!
