Why is it so hard to find a job in the UK when your 19 ?

Now before someone says "look at the lazy unemployed people, go out and get a job", am trying but really cant get anything and i stayed in school then went to college (so im not stupid or nothin) but theres nothing to apply for apart from mcdonalds. Im 19 and the careers advisers say "too old for an apprenticeship", its crap. Anyone in a similar position or that ?Why is it so hard to find a job in the UK when your 19 ?
Imagine for a moment you were working in the U.S. for twenty years in an engineering profession and after retiring at 40 years old relocated to the U.K. because your wife and family wanted you to. Then realising no one wants to hire you because your over skilled and more than likely to walk off the job because of your extensive work experience. Welcome to your homeland dude. I have been working part time for the love of my life and have not been able to sustain full time position for over a year. All I can suggest is keep your head up, keep looking, revise your CV, keeping mailing letters and beating the sidewalk until that magic moment happens. I already have a BSc in Engineering and Psychology and have a hell of a time maintaining what I call consistency in life style in comparison to the one I had before. You might have to consider relocating to where the work is. Keep your head up, there are more people just like you. I had a guy scrape my driveway for 拢15 just so he could keep busy between part time jobs. He was on our front drive for nearly eight hours scraping moss and dirt. I ended up paying him more, and what kept him going was enthusiasm and tenacity. It won't come easy. Good luck! Why is it so hard to find a job in the UK when your 19 ?
