"It was quite a moment at the end of President Obama's town hall meeting in Fort Myers, Fla., yesterday. As The News-Press writes, 19-year-old Julio Osegueda "rocketed from a Cape Coral teenager who flips burgers for $7.85 an hour at a McDonald's to an instant celebrity of sorts."
And he got a temporary job."

I want to say I saw his performance and was not impressed with him. He has a lot of growing up to do and will learn it takes more than enthusiasm to succeed. Are our teenagers so clueless that they don't realize in our careers, we start out at the bottom and earn?
The whole attitude of recent college grads is I have my degree I should start out has a VP!!
I see a lot of recent grads turn down entry level positions because they are beneath them.
The majority of teenagers I've talked to seem clueless to me. I think that's OK. I believe looking back that we were clueless at that age too.Are our teenagers so clueless that they don't realize in our careers, we start out at the bottom and earn?
No, teenagers are not clueless and I get really annoyed when people bash them. What happened at the end of the Obama meeting was just a stupid stunt. I'm not even convinced it wasn't planned.
Sadly yes many of them are ! I heard kids say so often darn i wish I made what he did. About someone who has had the same job for 40 years ! It isn't to realistic ! I beginning to think we have created a very spoiled entitled generation of children !Are our teenagers so clueless that they don't realize in our careers, we start out at the bottom and earn?
Yes, they are clueless. I have one, and I repeat, they are clueless.
edit- bob g you are correct. I am pissed at a friend of mine right now who got offered 50 a year. I would have taken that money and worked for a few years.. Then go to a larger company with experience.
Yes we do start at the bottom and earn out.
What do you do when the topping out at McDonald's earns less than I will the first year I get out of college. Not everyone had parents like mine who could send their kids to school.
Listen, this kid is going to get a whole 25 bucks to have one of the most memorable days of his life. Big whoop. It's not like he got any real money or even a real job.
Obama is so phony.
Obama watches to much Oprah.
Oprah orchestrated the Obama give Aways I am sure.
It's that whole entitlement mentality!
I think he needed a shrink more than a job.
Some are and some aren't - probably depends upon their parents.
Teenagers being clueless is not new. My oldest daughter graduated from H.S. in 1990. When she started putting in applications for employment, she kept applying for managerial positions, and for a long while, could not understand why she wasn't qualified to get them!
The big difference now is it's the instant information age. Youtube, Face-book, Twitter, and just the internet in general all put information out in a heartbeat. It just looks like teen ignorance is new...but it's just that now, it gets reported almost instantaneously across the world.
I am reminded of a sign I put on my daughters bedroom door when she was a Senior in high school. It read:
"Quick, hire a teenager...while they still know everything!"
Nothings changed it seems!
It is proof of the good economic times we had under Bush, with jobs a plenty, many teens thought nothing of quitting their job at the local store because they didn't like the boss, or the uniform, because they could get a job the next day. Local businesses, experiencing a shortage in workers would do what they could to retain ANY employee. It made many teens feel like a job is an entitlement. Many schools would also seek applicants with the Promise of training in a certain career field and say that graduates would make great pay and be guaranteed employment after graduation. Now that the economy is tanking, they have no clue of what it is like to have to be one of 200 to apply for a part time job at Mc Donald's, like it was in the 70's
