Do majors in college matter in future careers?

Whenever I hear someone with a humanities major. I always hear that the only jobs with humanities major such as

Art, Art History Creative Writing, Classics, Film, General Studies, History, Humanities, Interdisciplinary studies, Language %26amp; Culture, Liberal Arts, Liberal Studies, Literature, Political Science, most any language including English, Media, Music History, Paleontology, Photography, Philosophy, Religious Studies or Sociology

could only get a job in McDonald's. I'm in college and I'm starting to hate it because of this; I'm having huge thoughts whether I should drop it or not. I usually get angry when people say that the only jobs these days are all either math and science. I really don't think that I'm math or science material. I'm also having a tint of depression thinking that I won't make it in the future. I'm also sick and tired of my parents saying that I should not take any hard science majors because I usually fail these kinds of subjects and that I'm wasting their money.

I know some people with a degree who are working jobs that are unrelated to their majors. My history professor have a double major with Political Science and History but he worked in Wells Fargo as his first job. My mom have a masters degree in nursing but she works in an insurance company. Even with this economy, people still manage to get jobs with a single degree.Do majors in college matter in future careers?
Wow, that is not true that Humanities majors only work in fast food!!!

You are correct in your observation that your degree doesn't limit your career options that much. However, some jobs do require certain degrees.
