Would you be mad if your child decided to pursue a career as a manger at McDonald's but still attend college?

I work at McDonald's and was offered a opportunity to start training to become a manager. I've only worked here for roughly 7 months and I'm 17 years old. I really want to take advantage of this but I'm scared of what my mom will say. She wants me to have a marketable skill and be able to take care of myself. I understand where she's coming from and I strongly believe in getting a college degree. As of right now, I'm in a early college program and set to graduate in December with my high school diploma and Associate Degree in Arts (transfer). I want to know will it be possible for me to be a manager and attend college. I'm not sure what I want to go to school for but my mom wants me to go into the medical field. I'm leaning towards pharmacy. Please help. I'm scared I don't want to miss out on this management opportunity but I don't want to make my mom disappointed. There are plenty of benefits of moving up in McDonald's and I know I will be able to support myself without struggling. Help me please. Can I still transfer to a 4 year university and be a manager?Would you be mad if your child decided to pursue a career as a manger at McDonald's but still attend college?
Yes you can do both. Stay as a swing while your in school. They will work your schedule around your course load. The way they work is to grab the younger people with decent money and benefits, they hook them that way. Burn them up and spit them out. You can use that to your advantage while going to school. The mistake is that some young people decide that the money and the possible carree are worth more then the schooling so they drop out. Then the money levels off and the hours become longer. Not the type of job to raise a family. Stay in school with the idea that the job is simply a means to an end and don't get caught up with their promises.Would you be mad if your child decided to pursue a career as a manger at McDonald's but still attend college?
Managerial positions will give you marketable skills.

I would say try it... you can always leave McDonalds if it isn't working out, or request a demotion or whatever. But if you can handle the manager position and college, you'll get some great skills %26amp; experience %26amp; make better money in managerial positions.
Its your life bro. She can't "control" what you do after your eighteen. I'd take the job, and see how things work out with college. if it get downs to it id pick college out of the two, but for awhile i think you would be able to work as managerWould you be mad if your child decided to pursue a career as a manger at McDonald's but still attend college?
Of course you can.... It isn't a permanent position, and your mom should be able to understand. Plus, any type of managerial position will look good on your resume.
I hope you plan on getting a better job after college if you do go to college or that would be a waste of a diploma..Would you be mad if your child decided to pursue a career as a manger at McDonald's but still attend college?
I wouldn't be mad ..... free McRibs!!
oh definately.

U should most definately do both. im about to be manager at KFC and so many ppl look down on it. But truth be told, its a fairly simple job, great pay, holiday bonuses, seasonly bonuses up to 5grand or more, maternity pay, sick leave, annual leave, and holiday pay.

It will be great to be in management while u study, you wont struggle financially, and it will look good on ur resume, (as will a degree of course)

Go for it annd dont worry what ur mum says. heaps of ppl look down on me for working at KFC but i dont care :)
I hate it when parents think that a restaurant management job isn't honorable or useful work for their child. Honestly, you will learn more about how to run a business by actually managing one than you ever can by talking and reading about it in college.

Restaurant management IS a marketable skill. You will learn communications, math skills, and management skills that may stand you in good stead wherever you go afterwards.
I worked at McDonalds for several years while in High School, so I know what you mean when you talk about manager pay and benefits.

I do know that managers work LONG hours at Mikcy D's...but as long as you can fit in the time, I don't see there being any problem with attending a 4 year university and still being a manager...as long as you're close enough to work from your school, there shouldn't be a problem.

Just tell your mom to be greatful you're attending school, and planning on staying at McDonalds forever.

It's not a bad job, really, especially if you're still in school.
manager at Mc Donald's is not a career. Not to put you off or anything. I was a shift manager at Pizza Hut for 6 months, then assistant manager then general manager for 3 stores all in the matter of 3 years. Your mom should be proud of you wanting to take more responsibility in your current situation. Being a manager does not stop you from attending college or anything, it actually should help because you should be getting a nice raise, and having a responsible leadership position at work looks good on a college application. Go for it, But it is still your job so treat it as a stepping stone to bigger things
