Can I become A Veterinarian???I don't think I am smart enough! Help!?

I adore animals with all my heart, I have volunteered here:http://pets-inc.org/ for going on five years, I really want to become a Vet.

But I am starting to think I am not smart enough to make it, I have a GED instead of a diploma on the GED it says diploma but I don't know, I left high school to get my GED because I was being teased(not the skinniest girl) graduated on time class of 2009.

But when I was in HS my grades weren't good because I skipped ALLOT of days to avoid multiple people who like to pick on me. When I was in school I was good friends with all my teachers never in trouble, but I kept to myself most of the time.

I have ADD(not good at math), and my IQ is 112, so do you think I could become a Vet??? or should I aim towards making a career at McDonald's?Can I become A Veterinarian???I don't think I am smart enough! Help!?
I think the only thing holding you back is your lack of self belief.

You need to start believing in yourself! You can do anything you set your mind to. With hard work and determination you can seriously do anything!

I use to not think I'd ever get my dream job so set the bar lower and each time I raised the bar and cleared it I'd raise it a little more. I now have my dream job (Forensic Scientist), own 2 homes, have 3 dogs and a great life.

Dream big, work hard and your dreams will come true.

Good luck!Can I become A Veterinarian???I don't think I am smart enough! Help!?
enroll in college get a degree in some science and make sure you take the prereqs for vet schools there are 28 in the US and a few worldwide

vet school isn't going to look at your academic achievement in high school so you have another chance in college

just go for it and if worse happens and you don't get into vet school you'll have a degree to fall back on that will open a lot of doors

don't start asking of fry orders just yet keep it positive and start applying
I think you can set your sights higher then McDonalds. = )

I suggest you enroll in college and get your prerequisites out of the way. Get great grades, and then apply to vet school and see what happens.

Nobody ever attained what they wanted in life by saying "I can't".

I bet you can do it if you put your heart and soul into it.Can I become A Veterinarian???I don't think I am smart enough! Help!?
Woah woah! Never ever say u are gonna get a job at MCDONALDS. I mean I love to eat there, but you'll get paid, like, $7 an hour! And you don't get lunch. You eat the LEFTOVERS. Never doubt yourself! You can do it! I know u can! Just work super hard and always keep your goal in mind. You'll be a vet before u know it! Hope this helps.
screw the people who made fun of you and screw mcdonalds you can become a vet just put ur mind to it and good luckCan I become A Veterinarian???I don't think I am smart enough! Help!?
You've got a "Superior" IQ :] I believe you'll be a great Vet, you must believe it in yourself first though ^-^ Reach for it, especially since it's being something around you love! Good Luck!

Intelligence Quotient - The ratio of mental age to chronological (actual) age. The average I.Q of a person is between 90-110.

The classifications, which must be used with great discretion, are:-

Under 70- Mental deficiency or retardation.

70 to 90- Dull/Normal.

90 to 110- Normal.

110 to 125- Superior.

125 to 140- Very superior.

Above 140- Genius.
Hi! I'm glad to hear that you are thinking of becoming a vet. Currently, I'm a biology major in college and was also considering going into a veterinary field or maybe pursuing something in medicine. I want to be honest with you. Vet school is extremely hard to get into. Many people say that it is significantly harder to get into vet school than it is to get into med school!

However, if this is a goal that you truly, truly want to pursue there is absolutely nothing stopping you from achieving your dreams.

The reason vet school is so hard to get into is simply because there are few schools that only accept a limited number of students. They look at college grades and other experience that the applicant has. The average GPA for vet school is well above a 3.0.

The first step in this journey is to enroll in college. You will have to complete the prerequisites specific to the schools you choose to apply to in the future. These requirements are easily found by looking up "veterinary schools" on google. Some of these prerequisites may include general biology, chemistry, anatomy etc. While you will have to complete the science classes that are required by the vet schools you don't necessarily have to be a science major! While it may be more challenging, if you are interested in another subject you can pursue both the requirements for vet school and also the other degree.

As the competition will be fierce, it is important to maintain your GPA! (This has been my most discouraging aspect as far as my own pursuing of vet school.) Do well in every class because every class counts. Even if it sounds crazy shoot for all As! Study really hard! If you are reading this thinking that I'm crazy and that its impossible know that it isn't! You can do it!

Having practical experience in the field will beef up your application later!

When you are within a year or so of graduating or completing all of the classes required to get into vet school you will need to begin applying. Applying for anything that ends with a D, phD, MD, etc is a whole study onto its own. You may be required to take the MCATs or GREs exams that are similar to the SATs. The application process is somewhat arduous and you probably should get a book as I am not really qualified to answer to all the nuance involved.

Do not just apply to one school but apply to every school that you could bear going to. If you aren't opposed, apply to australia! Applications are expensive so you may want to take a part time job at mcDs to pay for it! (I would! nothing wrong with honest living!) The more schools you apply to the higher the chance that at least one will accept you.

Anyway, this is just a rough outline of what it could take to get into vet school. This is as much a test of the applicant's determination as is the actual school. It is important that you do a lot of your own research as to the path that you will need to begin now. Keep your eyes on the goal and don't be discouraged if this is your dream. There even might be times when the science itself is not worth the brain ache! And don't let the cost (which is exorbitant) discourage you because once you're practicing you'll be making bank :).

Best of luck to you! Everyone seems to be rooting for you

PS. Don't let others deter you from doing your best!
If you really want to become a Vet, then study to get the qualification you need for application. Your IQ would certainly indicate that you can do it. If you don't get in to Vet School, then there are so many other things you will be able to do instead. No need to think that you are dumb if you don't make it. There are not that many places available so they can pick and choose who they accept.

I wanted to be a Vet, many years ago but my Chemistry was not good enough. However, all my adult life I have worked with animals, mainly with Guide Dogs for the blind. This has given me great joy and satisfaction. There are lots of openings to work with animals. Have you thought of the possibility of being a Vet Nurse? That is a very responsible job, doing what you love, but might be a little easier to get into than Vet School. Whatever you do, don't give up on yourself, you can do whatever you want if you work hard and keep focused.

Good luck!
