I am trying to find evidence that completing a high school internship can open doors and make it easier to land a "career" job in one's desired career field. Statistics showing the career success(defined by one finding suitable employment in his/her career field) of people who'd interned, vs people who did not intern, would be great.
(Basically I'm trying to show that someone who interns in his/her desired career field is more likely to find a relevant job after graduation, as opposed to being stuck unemployed or working McDonalds type jobs due to inability to get hired in his/her career field.)
So far I've been finding LOTS of studies and statistics showing that completing an internship has good effects on students' grades, graduation rates, and ability to choose a desired career path...which is great and all, but...I've found NO stats showing the direct effect of an internship on one's EMPLOYMENT. Don't get me wrong...improved grades as a result of a career internship are great and all, but the point of a career internship should be to improve one's ability to land a CAREER after school. Otherwise, it's kinda like someone participating in a weight loss diet and experiencing such benefits as clearer skin and fewer colds/sicknesses, but no actual weight loss.
Or, perhaps the lack of statistics shows that internships--while they have many overall advantages for students--don't have a significant impact on job placement or students' careers post graduation? (IDK?)
Could someone please point me in the right direction? Thanks! Are there any statistics showing the beneficial effects of completing an internship on one's career?
A high school internship? I doubt their impact is that substantial. As for an internship in college, college placement centers will more than likely have stats on their success rate...I have known and recruited numerous interns and all of them ended up working for the company they interned with after graduation...not all stayed but at least there was a job waiting for them before they moved elsewhere...
