I like hearing about peoples careers. I would like to know what your job is. Even if it is at McDonald's. I am only 14 so I do not have a career yet. I just graduated from Syracuse University with a degree in anthropology and writing. Right now, I am working at a retail store in the local mall as an assistant manager because the area I live in is pretty hard-hit for jobs pertaining to either of my degrees. In another year, I'd like to either move to Boston/NYC and try to get into the academic publishing industry or attend graduate school for my PhD.What is your job/career?

Natural Resources Conservationist and Naval Officer in Reserves

路 Instructed three-day Meteorology and Oceanography Engagement in five West and Central African nations to advance their national meteorological agency capabilities.

路 Diligently enforced compliance of county soil erosion and stormwater ordinances. Advanced to lead worker and trained new employees in department. In three years of employment, handled 450+ projects and levied over $150,000 in civil penalties.

路 Led formation of Data Distribution Division and filled this critical position which centralized support for over two dozen Fleet Numerical government partners and collaborative weather agencies. As customer service liaison, coordinated with civilian and military colleagues to satisfy external requests for meteorology and oceanography product and computer services.

路 Managed two Divisions comprised of over thirty Sailors during two ship tours. As Second Division Officer on USS ARCTIC, ensured personnel maintained deck equipment used in underway replenishment evolutions, safety gear and systems to support helicopter operations, and small boats used for man overboard recovery and parts/personnel transfer.

Operations:

路 Completed a six and a half month Mediterranean Sea/Arabian Gulf Deployment in 2001 during which time USS ARCTIC supported OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM. Served as Officer of the Deck during cruise that covered over sixty thousand nautical miles; responsible for safe navigation of ship and conduct of underway replenishment operations. Assimilated information prior to each evolution (over 100 such refueling operations during deployment) for safety brief given to Command members.

路 Served as Combat Information Center Watch Officer and Surface Warfare Coordinator during a dozen at sea training and real world operations on USS CHANCELLORSVILLE in 2003. Worked with combat watch standers to ensure seamless command and control, radar, and weapons system performance. Helped formulate ship鈥檚 underway schedule and assisted the Officer of the Deck in safely executing underway missions and navigation of high seas.

路 Served as Africa Partnership Station Meteorology and Oceanography Officer while deployed five months to West and Central Africa. Provided timely weather support to ship and staff in execution of complex operational evolutions.

路 As a collateral duty Public Affairs Officer onboard USS ARCTIC, wrote over forty articles describing ship鈥檚 current activities and served as Cruise Book editor during Mediterranean Sea/Arabian Gulf Deployment 2001.

路 Perfected message writing techniques on USS CHANCELLORSVILLE to articulate situational reports to higher command and other Carrier Strike Group units helping draft countless messages during tour.

路 Acted as ship鈥檚 coordinator for status and readiness reporting computer metric program that informed Fleet leadership of ship鈥檚 ability to perform fundamental missions. Oversaw numerous system upgrades and provided training to educate other ship personnel to assume responsibility for program.
