I've been learning programming for my future career. I think I'd be good at it, but I don't really like it. The reason I'm still trying is because I have limited options, and at this point, I'm pretty much willing to settle on "okay, this is frustrating, but I'm good at it and it will put food on the table someday."
My problem is that I really, really want to write/make music. It's an important dream for me. Not a singer or band member, but music for things like commercials, games, and ultimately, movies. I'm obsessed with music by the way. I've listened to whatever music I could get my hands on since I was a few years old. Unfortunately, I don't have much experience with music theory or writing. I did buy a cheap MIDI keyboard, and I have some okay free software.
I should mention that I'm 20, and have a disability that makes it hard for me to get a conventional job, like McDonalds or something like that. I don't have a lot of money, So I'm not sure if college is an option right now. I'd appreciate any advice you could provide, especially if you're a coder or musician. At a crossroads, future career goal advice please?
I am not a coder or a musician, but I will tell you that following your passion is always a good thing. However having said that I am also a bit of a pragmatist and believe you do have to support yourself in the mean time. If you are good at programming then perhaps that would be the best way to support yourself while you pursue your passion. There are a lot of federal loans and pell grants especially if you have a disability. You should visit a local college and find out what your opportunities might be. Good Luck.
