Im 21 and i still live at home. Everything is provided until more recently my mom made me get a job instead of doing what i always do which is nothing, sitting at home. I never held a job for more then 4 months and i have had around 50 jobs. Im currently working fast food and its just as crappy as my previous fast food experiences which were subway (3 days), quiznos (1 week), and McDonalds (2 months) all of which sucked. I hate working because i hate jobs that pay nothing and are uninteresting. Sometimes i feel like a kid still doing nothing with my life having someone else support me. Im going to community college but i dont like my major i cant see myself doing anything and believe me i have thought about it. read up on lots of careers, i dont care. Computers, law enforcement, nursing, attorney, air traffic controller and so on who cares. I feel like a vegetable in a can and i cant get along with anybody on a personal level except my 2 friends who i dont see much of. It seems like a hassle now because it really hasent happened so it probably never will until i do something. But what do i do? It feels like a form of prison where i just go about doing nothing when i want to do something big with my life but dont have the ways or means? I cant move out on minum wage and i cant live with my mom and some guy she is seeing for the rest of my life. I started community college when i was 18 and im still not done so you can see theres a lack of motivation there, mainly because i just dont feel like a damn thing most of the time. Also i hate this town its in the midwest and pretty much everyone is lame, always thought this way about it. WTF!! do i do?I dont know what im doing anymore?
Well, the first step to addressing any problem is admitting you have one. So, congratulations! First step done :)
Here's my advice:
Make a few SMALL goals first. Don't make tons of little goals, find a few that are very important to you. That way, you won't be as likely to not feel guilty about not making them. After you have practiced on the small goals, move on to larger ones.
Write these goals down, and chart your progress. If you are working towards finishing community college, keep track of how close you are to finishing that goal. Focusing on the end result will help you work through it.
If you honestly aren't interested in your major, make sure it's at least a useful or versatile major. Accounting or Business are pretty versatile majors. Also, try new things... you never know where you might find something interesting.
With regards to your job, stop focusing on how much you hate it. Instead, think about how lucky you are to actually have a job. Sure, it's minimum wage, but there are people out there with NOTHING. Right now, it's the best you've got, so suck it up and don't get fired.
When you feel really unmotivated, visualize someone that you admire. Chances are, anyone you admire (a famous actor/actress, a singer, etc.) didn't get that way by sitting around doing nothing.
Give yourself a schedule and strict rules. Examples would be; waking up at a specific time every day, not watching TV more than an hour a day, arriving to work five minutes early every day, etc. Then, FOLLOW your own rules.
For me, it always helps when I make my personal goals public. Try sharing them with your mother. And give her full permission to nag you when you start slacking. This makes you more likely to stick to your goals, because you don't want to let people down.I dont know what im doing anymore?
Have you ever worked with your hands,
that is repaired anything - so much as changed the oil in a car?
careers that involve mechanical skills are in demand and
pay well ( once you get a bit of experience ) and really,
its not that big of a deal, can you at least explore the possibility?
GOOD LUCK
you keep on living wishing for something to be interesting
after living a dull and normal life having accomplished nothing you die with nothing but regrets
im not a pessimist im a realist
sad but trueI dont know what im doing anymore?
Well at least be lucky you don't have social or anxiety disorders problem or stuff. I do and living in this world is a complete nightmare because of my fear.
sounds like you need to get busy getting serious. you know you are stuck, so that's a good start. now how to get unstuck...
you are 21, so actually you haven't wasted much time...we all do, no one is perfect by any stretch.
I was the same way when I was your age (I'm 31 now). And I had no motivation to be in school once highschool was done, and I didn't want to work my life away either. I still to this day prefer to have as much free time as possible.
I like to draw, always have, so if I were to have a career, it would have to be that in some way, no exceptions. That is what would make me happy and what I love. Otherwise, it's just a job and not my life. But still it should be enjoyable.
Do you like automechanics? they make bank and it would be a useful life skill. Learn a trade. Forget all those random classes that mean nothing to you. Just take a weekend to reflect, without all those opinions from anyone else. You said you thought about it a lot already, so you have at least narrowed it down a little. Think outside the box. You are old enough to make your own way...these menial jobs are not forever, just pick one that you don't hate....like valet parking or something. Easy work, good tips...be a valet while you take automechanics (I know you're bright so you'll not only ace the class, but you'll enjoy it too) and save up money then move to the beach. California. Explore your adventerous side more...try surfing, try something new....definitely move, but give it time. when you have a goal, then it will make working any job a bit better because it's financing your freedom.
So you don't like fast food jobs. Welcome to the club. So you don't like minimum wage. Neither do I.
Based on these two things, you can simply eliminate that employment route altogether. No more fast food places for you ever again. Your fulfilment is going to be found in your passion- even if it's encouraging others- anything that you love, be sure to make it a part of your daily exisitence. Be a man of good character, and the right people and opportunities will come your way.I dont know what im doing anymore?
I'm in the same boat you are. I have yet to find my "passion" if you will. this is what someone told me maybe it will help you: "Your thoughts make up who you are. I was a lot like you until I figured that out that happiness comes from within. Because our thoughts create our reality, in order to be happy it is simply a matter of directing your thoughts. Most people do not even realize that they can direct their thoughts and when you don’t give your thoughts direction they have a tendency to wander around based on input. If your input is cynical and depressing (for instance modern television, newspapers, negative friends, etc.) your thoughts will generally follow suit. Our subconscious mind was designed to create our realities based on our predominant thoughts (or beliefs) and brings us our emotions based on our thoughts via the hypothalamus in the brain in the form of peptides released in the bloodstream. Then it causes you to do things (subconsciously) that attract into your life that which you believe. You can verify this by taking a look at what you believe. You see examples all the time of how it is correct but rarely find examples to the contrary. In fact you were lead to people who share your beliefs making them even stronger.
So if your reality is not one you enjoy, then you need to direct your thoughts in a way that will bring about one you will. This requires very little work but it needs to be done daily. The trick is to fool your subconscious into believing that you think a certain way so that it will go to work to make it true for you. The easiest way to do this is by repeating a phrase with feeling about ten times, once or twice daily for three months. Now when I mention with feeling, I mean like you’re trying out for the lead role in the biggest movie ever. You’re trying to convince your subconscious that you believe it, so it’s imperative that you act as if you really do. The phrase needs to be said in the present tense, as if it’s already true, and in the positive. So you wouldn’t say, “I’m not going to get sick” for instance, you would say, “I’m healthy and strong”. Anything you do this with, as explained, will become your reality so take a good look at what you really want before you make them up. Things like “Everyday life gets better for me”, “People are attracted to my charisma and charm” or, “My thoughts are in line with my desires” are good examples of thoughts that can change your reality.
Visualization, creativity, guided meditation and any other method that put the focus of your thoughts on that which you desire can be very helpful as well. Anyway that you can get your mind thinking the thoughts that you want to think increases the chance that your subconscious will believe that you accept the thoughts as your reality. You may want to change your input too, to one that is congruent with the reality you want to create. Reading or watching inspirational material is a great way to do this, as is reading about people who have mastered a reality you would like to emulate. Limiting the input that causes the emotions you don’t like is a given.
After doing this for a little over a month you will start to see a change (it takes ninety days however for your brain to physically form a new neural net [or hardwired way of thinking]). Your subconscious will then start leading you to your desired reality so you’ll need to pay attention to signs. A lot of it will happen subconsciously but sometimes we dismiss signs because they don’t meet our expectations. Usually if you are being lead to something you will get verification so if something happens more than once, pay attention.
Most people have no clue how the mind works and only utilize ten percent of their brain. We actually use one hundred percent but don’t realize that the ninety percent that creates our reality is directed by our thoughts. By spending one minute a day simply shifting our thoughts to be in line with our desires, we can create a reality that we not only love, but reflects the divine within. I hope you choose to create a reality that brings happiness and is worthy of the divine within you."
See if you can talk to a counselor about this. There maybe help available through your community college, or if not, they may be able to refer you to a place where you can get counseling that you pay for on a sliding scale based on your income. One thing your community college should be able to help you with is CAREER counseling. There are tests they can give you to see what sort of work fits your personality, and maybe they can help you find a job shadowing opportunity, where you follow someone around for a day or two as they do their job and you get to see up close what that job is like.
As for your work experience up until now, it sounds like you aren't giving these jobs enough of a chance. Yes, fast food work sucks, but EVERY job has parts of it that suck. But you haven't even given yourself time enough to learn how to be good at your job. I worked in a supermarket when I was going to college, and I didn't like it either. But I saw it as a means toward an end, since it was helping to pay my college tuition. And I figured as long as I was there, I might as well do the best job I can and do my best to be good at it. I learned skills at that job that have helped me in every job since then, like how to keep my temper in check when dealing with an unreasonable customer, how to deal with difficult fellow employees, and how not to piss off my boss, so that I could keep my job, and when I needed a favor, like time off for a special occasion, I usually got what I wanted.
If you want to get out of that lame Midwestern town, you're going to have to learn to get along with those lame people first. Learn your job well and learn to get along with people so you can get a reference from your employer when you apply for a better job. Work hard at learning in your classes so you can learn some of the basics that everyone needs to know in order to find a good job, and keep exploring possibilities to figure out what a good job is for you.
