Currently I am a community college grad with an associate degree for an electronic engineering technologist. After working in the market for a while and looking at the prospects in the area of electronic/electrical engineering, it appears that the reward is not as green and good as finance/accounting/buisness management areas since engineers work harder and get paid less than the finance and buisness guys.
Not to mention that over the years my interest in electronic engineering is starting to fade. Not to mention that science (except medical) is now a foreign career with a mcdonald's salary and sweatshop conditions, that is at least what I got from google's opinions.
What do you think? I am going back to college but instincts and opinions from ex-engineers and ex-programmers tell me that engineering is a bad investment if I go to college and should go with things like accounting/finance/buisness since there are more prospects, payment, recognition and better life/work balance.Should I quit engineering for finance?
Do what you think you will love! Even if the $$ are less then you wanted. I went the $$$$ route and I made a lot of $$$$ but I wasn't happy. I wanted to do things that would change the world rather then make a bunch of rich people rich. So I got out of the business world and entered the realm of social work. I am so much happier and the $$ isn't as bad as I thought.Should I quit engineering for finance?
If you already have a solid background in engineering, you should try completing a degree in Chemical Engineering. There are many, many jobs for Chem E's as they have helped design basically anything man made. Also, Chem E's can go on to do a wide variety of jobs, including management ($$$) and can even go on to law or medical school.
Also, STARTING salaries for chem e's are anywhere from 60k to 100k and they only go up from thereShould I quit engineering for finance?
I think engineering is a very good qulification whereas accounting u basically need the experience. Accounting is totally different and can be very frustrating at times. U have do decde what u like and what u would enjoy doing, but for me engineering sounds like more fun......i am an accountant so i would know :)Should I quit engineering for finance?
Yes, definitely, you will have a better paid job and more peace of mind, of course not to forget that engieering is hard, and poorly paid, and it takes too much time of your life for nothing.
Its not worth the effort. Do you know many engineers who have become rich?
