You need to meet my friend.. a medical assistant catching a degree in science where she is surrounded by competetive nerds who rarely lighten up. but she's hot! haha you'd probably get along.
Anyway.. maybe you could inspire your coworkers a little?... you know, get a little rowdy around the office.. start throwing paperclips at people or something... make up a game.. play some good pranks.. To be honest, work is just going to be boring. I work with a lot of older people so I can kind of relate because there is a pretty large age difference between me and my coworkers who are all married with children and so I can't relate too much.. or rather they can't relate with me.
Work for the pure pleasure of doing what you love to do.. and if you don't like the environment, look for a funner place to work! I don't know where you work or what you do so I can't give too many suggestions.. but for instance, I currently work with fire sprinkler systems. do I care for sprinkler systems? hell no! There is almost nothing more boring than a fire sprinkler system! But, if I wanted I could take my job to somewhere like Starbucks or Amazon, which i would absolutely love to work for btw, because i just know with all my heart that the people like me work there too.. younger.. more open minded... fun... you need to read up on the company you want to work for, but the business says it all based on the industry for the most part. I'm suprised you work with nerds though.. if you work in the medical field, just hang out with the medical assistants or something, they love to dress up and go out because they spend so much time in scrubs! And IT? I thought you guys had fun messing around? BTW if you haven't seen The IT Crowd yet, you should..
OK. Maybe this wasn't the most helpful answer... but if you've tried to get your coworkers out into the world and that hasn't worked and you still long for that kind of relationship with them...... then change your job until you find the right kind of people you can mesh with.
