Are there any job opportunites for the future for someone with a mathematics degree?

I'm also getting my teacher certification, but my uncle says thats a waste because of budget cuts. ALSO, he said being a math major isn't enough, that there are no job oportunites in it...he was a factory worker laid off in the 80's recession who now manages mcdonalds. ). He said there aren't any opportu ites in the economy for my generation and this career and I'm scared....what should I do?Are there any job opportunites for the future for someone with a mathematics degree?
When I majored in mathematics, one of my favorite instructors cautioned that unless I studied something along with mathematics, I'd be limiting myself regarding career options. He taught college mathematics, but he had his own business of electrical consulting. I found that engineering and computer science were good minors. Later on, I went back to college and majored in these as technology advanced in those subjects.

In my opinion, there will be jobs for you, such as teaching and research. I don't think a teaching certification is a waste, so much as the pay may not be as pleasing to you as jobs which include math along with some other subject. Don't be discouraged with your major in math. The bottom line is what makes you happiest. Are there any job opportunites for the future for someone with a mathematics degree?

O*NET is a very wonderful tool. You can check job credentials, average salaries, and specific jobs in any field all on one website. Look in your state or whatever state you wish to work in under whatever you feels applies to "math majors". It will also show you expected job growth for the next 10 years or so. It is free, relevant, and helpful! :)
If you love it, you'll find a way to use it in one way or another :)

Good Luck!
